Tan Ky is known as a locality with a large area of raw sugarcane. The vast green sugarcane fields look so beautiful.
Tan Ky is a mountainous district, but has a large area of fertile land suitable for growing annual agricultural crops, of which sugarcane is the main crop. Every year, with the support policies of Song Con Sugarcane Joint Stock Company, people in Tan Ky district invest in expanding sugarcane acreage, most of which are in the inner communes: Giai Xuan, Tan Hop, Tan Xuan, Tien Ky, Dong Van, Tan Phu... Of which, 1,500 hectares are planted in concentrated areas, applying mechanization from land preparation to planting, care and harvesting. To ensure good quality sugarcane, farmers go to the fields to strip off all old leaves, to reduce pests and diseases, and to allow the sugarcane to absorb more light, increasing sugar content. Therefore, the introduction of new sugarcane varieties is of primary concern for the raw sugarcane growing area. Currently, there are two new sugarcane varieties commonly grown in Tan Ky, namely LK92-11 and K3. The yield for concentrated sugarcane growing areas applying mechanization reaches 80 tons/ha, with some areas reaching 120 tons/ha. This summer, the weather has been rainy and the heat is not as severe as in previous years, so the raw sugarcane area in Tan Ky has grown well. In the past 3 years, the price of raw sugarcane has been purchased by the factory at a high price, so Tan Ky sugarcane growers have focused on investing more reasonably. According to Song Con Sugarcane Joint Stock Company, every year, nearly 3,000 hectares of sugarcane are sprayed with pesticides using drones, to reduce costs for sugarcane growers and to eliminate pests more synchronously and effectively.
