Rice prices today, August 22, 2024: The domestic market shows mixed trends, with increases and decreases for paddy rice and a downward trend for both raw and finished rice. On the export market, rice prices are showing signs of strengthening, increasing by 2-3 USD/ton.
Domestic rice prices today, August 22nd.
Today's rice market shows low supply and slightly lower prices. In An Cu (Soc Trang), rice arrivals are low, trading is sluggish, and prices have decreased slightly. In Sa Dec (Dong Thap), rice imports to ports are also low, purchasing warehouses are operating slowly, and rice quality is not high.
The price of IR 504 rice from the summer-autumn crop decreased by 100 VND/kg, currently standing at 11,550 - 11,600 VND/kg.
The price of finished IR 504 rice also decreased by 100 VND/kg, down to 13,600 - 13,700 VND/kg.
Meanwhile, at retail markets, rice prices remained unchanged, with:
- Nang Nhen rice: 28,000 VND/kg.
- Jasmine rice: 18,000 - 20,000 VND/kg.
- Nang Hoa rice: 20,000 VND/kg.
- Regular white rice: 15,000 - 16,000 VND/kg.
- Long-grain fragrant rice: 20,000 - 21,000 VND/kg.
- Jasmine rice: 20,000 VND/kg.
- Taiwanese fragrant rice: 21,000 VND/kg.
- Common white rice: 17,000 VND/kg.
- Regular Soc rice: 18,500 VND/kg.
- Soc Thai rice: 20,000 VND/kg.
- Japanese rice: 22,000 VND/kg.

The Mekong Delta region witnessed inconsistent fluctuations in rice prices: the price of OM 5451 rice increased by 200 VND/kg, while the price of OM 18 rice decreased.
Prices of raw and finished rice tended to decrease slightly, by about 100 VND/kg. The rice market recorded slow trading and stable prices in many localities.
In Kien Giang and Long An, demand for rice has decreased, and the number of buyers is low. In Dong Thap, although the rice is nearing harvest, transactions remain slow and prices are unchanged.
According to information from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of An Giang province: The price of IR 50404 rice currently ranges from 7,800 to 8,000 VND/kg. Dai Thom 8 rice is priced from 8,400 to 8,500 VND/kg.
OM 5451 rice is priced at 8,200 - 8,400 VND/kg, an increase of 200 VND compared to yesterday. OM 18 rice is priced at 8,500 - 8,700 VND/kg, a decrease of 200 VND. OM 380 rice and Japanese rice remain stable at 7,800 - 8,000 VND/kg.
Dried Nàng Nhen rice is sold at 20,000 VND/kg.
The price of IR 4625 glutinous rice today is 7,600 - 7,700 VND/kg, down 200 VND compared to yesterday. The price of An Giang glutinous rice remains unchanged today, at 7,000 - 7,200 VND/kg.
Domestic by-product prices today, August 22nd.
By-products saw a slight decrease today compared to yesterday.
The price of OM 5451 broken rice has decreased slightly, currently at 9,400 - 9,600 VND/kg, down 100 VND/kg. The price of dry rice bran remains stable today at 7,150 - 7,250 VND/kg.
Export rice prices
On the export market, Vietnamese rice export prices recorded a sharp increase compared to yesterday. According to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), 100% broken rice is at 440 USD/ton; standard 5% broken rice is at 578 USD/ton, an increase of 3 USD/ton; and 25% broken rice is at 541 USD/ton, an increase of 2 USD/ton.
In July, Vietnam exported over 750,000 tons of rice, a 46% increase compared to June. Vietnam has expanded its rice export markets to new regions including the Middle East, Africa, South America, Japan, and South Korea.
Vietnamese rice prices have risen by $14 to $34 per ton compared to Thai and Pakistani rice, potentially reaching new export records this year.
By the beginning of August, the area planted with summer-autumn rice in Southern Vietnam reached 1,548,432 hectares, a slight increase of 0.5% compared to the plan, and 761,468 hectares had been harvested, accounting for 49.2%.
Provinces in the Mekong Delta are accelerating the planting of autumn-winter rice to avoid flooding, with Dong Thap province having planted 89,804 hectares, reaching 74.8% of its plan.
The majority of the autumn-winter rice crop is planted with high-quality rice varieties, accounting for over 70%.
As of early August, 367,336 hectares of autumn-winter rice had been sown and planted, reaching 50.5% of the plan.
Domestic rice prices are rising due to low supply and strong export demand for key markets such as Indonesia and Africa.
