Rice prices today August 22, 2024: The domestic market increases and decreases in opposite directions for rice products and tends to decrease for raw rice and finished rice products. In the export market, rice prices are showing signs of increasing strongly by 2 - 3 USD/ton.

Domestic rice prices today August 22

The rice market today shows low supply and slightly reduced prices. In An Cu (Soc Trang), the amount of rice arriving is low, transactions are not active, prices have decreased slightly. In Sa Dec (Dong Thap), the amount of rice imported to the ports is also low, the warehouses are operating slowly and the quality of the rice is not high.

IR 504 Summer-Autumn rice price decreased by 100 VND/kg, currently at 11,550 - 11,600 VND/kg.

The price of finished rice IR 504 also decreased by VND 100/kg, down to VND 13,600 - 13,700/kg.

Meanwhile, at retail markets, rice prices remained unchanged, with:

- Nang Nhen Rice: 28,000 VND/kg.

- Jasmine rice: 18,000 - 20,000 VND/kg.

- Nang Hoa rice: 20,000 VND/kg.

- Regular rice: 15,000 - 16,000 VND/kg.

- Long grain fragrant rice: 20,000 - 21,000 VND/kg.

- Jasmine rice: 20,000 VND/kg.

- Taiwanese fragrant rice: 21,000 VND/kg.

- Regular white rice: 17,000 VND/kg.

- Regular Soc rice: 18,500 VND/kg.

- Thai Soc rice: 20,000 VND/kg.

- Japanese rice: 22,000 VND/kg.

The Mekong Delta region witnessed inconsistent fluctuations in rice prices: OM 5451 rice prices increased by VND 200/kg, while OM 18 rice prices decreased.

Prices of raw rice and finished products tend to decrease slightly, about 100 VND/kg. The rice market recorded slow transactions and stable prices in many localities:

In Kien Giang and Long An, demand for rice has decreased, with few buyers. In Dong Thap, rice is about to be harvested but transactions are still slow and prices have not changed.

According to information from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of An Giang province: The price of IR 50404 rice currently fluctuates from 7,800 - 8,000 VND/kg. Dai Thom 8 rice costs from 8,400 - 8,500 VND/kg.

OM 5451 rice is priced at 8,200 - 8,400 VND/kg, up 200 VND compared to yesterday. OM 18 rice is priced at 8,500 - 8,700 VND/kg, down 200 VND. OM 380 rice and Japanese rice are stable at 7,800 - 8,000 VND/kg.

Nang Nhen rice (dried) is sold at 20,000 VND/kg.

The price of IR 4625 sticky rice today is 7,600 - 7,700 VND/kg, down 200 VND compared to yesterday. The price of An Giang sticky rice today is unchanged, still 7,000 - 7,200 VND/kg.

Domestic by-product prices today August 22

By-products recorded a slight decrease today compared to yesterday.

The price of OM 5451 broken rice has slightly decreased, currently at 9,400 - 9,600 VND/kg, down 100 VND/kg. The price of dry bran today remains stable at 7,150 - 7,250 VND/kg.

Export rice price

In the export market, Vietnam's rice export prices recorded a sharp increase compared to yesterday. According to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), 100% broken rice was at 440 USD/ton; 5% broken standard rice was at 578 USD/ton, up 3 USD/ton; 25% broken rice was at 541 USD/ton, up 2 USD/ton.

In July, Vietnam exported more than 750,000 tons of rice, up 46% compared to June. Vietnam has expanded its rice export market to new regions including the Middle East, Africa, South America, Japan and South Korea.

Vietnam's rice prices have increased by $14 to $34 per ton compared to Thai and Pakistani rice, potentially setting a new export record this year.

By early August, the Summer-Autumn rice cultivation area in the South reached 1,548,432 hectares, a slight increase of 0.5% compared to the plan, and 761,468 hectares were harvested, accounting for 49.2%.

Provinces in the Mekong Delta are speeding up planting autumn-winter rice to avoid floods, with Dong Thap province having planted 89,804 hectares, reaching 74.8% of the plan.

Most of the Autumn-Winter rice area is planted with high-quality rice varieties, with a rate of over 70%.

As of early August, Autumn-Winter rice had been planted on 367,336 hectares, reaching 50.5% of the plan.

Domestic rice prices are rising, due to low supply and strong export demand to key markets such as Indonesia and Africa.
