How to check the airbag system

Airbags are an indispensable safety feature in all modern cars.

Therefore, checking the airbag system is a regular and important task to ensure safety when driving a vehicle.

To determine if the airbag system is functioning properly, you need to look for the indicator light with the airbag icon on the front display panel. This indicator light monitors the airbag sensor cluster, including the front and side airbag sensors, the emergency seatbelt tensioner, the airbag inflator, internal wiring, and power sources.

The airbag is functioning normally when this warning light is illuminated because the ignition switch is turned on and off within approximately 6 seconds. If the light does not illuminate, or illuminates but does not turn off after 6 seconds, or illuminates during driving, it indicates a problem with the airbag and requires inspection or repair.

Additionally, if the airbag has been repaired after a collision, it's crucial to ensure it's replaced according to official procedures. This guarantees the airbag will function properly and protect the driver and passengers.

Common airbag malfunctions

Airbag malfunction: If the warning light on the dashboard is not illuminated or remains illuminated continuously, it indicates that the airbag is malfunctioning or not deploying. A malfunctioning airbag will not deploy in the event of an accident, increasing the risk of serious injury to the vehicle's occupants.

Improper airbag replacement or repair: In reality, airbags that are replaced or repaired but not to the correct standards may not function or may malfunction when needed, potentially causing injury to occupants in the event of an accident.

Technical fault: Loose electrical connections or wiring can cause the airbag to fail to deploy or to operate incompletely.

Sensor malfunction: Sensors in the airbag system send signals to activate the airbags in the event of a traffic accident. If the sensors are not functioning properly or are damaged, the accuracy of the airbag system may be affected and the airbags may not deploy in an accident.

Incorrect pressure and gas concentration: The pressure and gas concentration in the airbag must meet standards to deploy in the event of a traffic accident, minimizing the risk of injury.
