According to RIA Novosti, Pentagon Deputy Spokesperson Sabrina Singh announced on August 22 (Washington time) that the US allowed Ukraine to use US weapons in the attack on the Kursk region.

“Our approaches allow Ukraine to conduct counterattacks including Kursk and Sumy. Thus, they defend themselves from Russian attacks from these areas,” said Pentagon deputy spokeswoman Sabrina Singh in an official statement.

At the same time, according to Ms. Singh, despite the statements of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky about the target of the attack on the Kursk region, the US still has doubts in this context.

A day earlier, the Special Operations Forces of the Ukrainian Army reported that they had used Western HIMARS missile launchers on pontoon bridges in the Kursk region.

In addition, a US military official told RIA Novosti that he had previously refused to acknowledge that the Ukrainian Armed Forces had moved these MLRS there when attacking the Russian region. The official also mentioned that Kiev needed to ensure that the Ukrainian military only used the weapons provided within the limits set by the US.

On August 6, units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces launched an offensive to seize territory in Russia's Kursk region. Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov announced that their offensive had been stopped.

According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, as of August 22, in the fighting in this area, the enemy lost more than 4,700 soldiers and 68 tanks.

In the Kursk, Belgorod and Bryansk regions, an anti-terrorist operation regime is being introduced to ensure the safety of the population.

The Ukrainian invasion of Russia’s Kursk province has become a new issue that has further escalated tensions between the US and Russia. Moscow has accused Washington of supporting Ukraine’s attack on Russian territory, while the US has insisted it had no involvement in Kiev’s attack on Russia. US officials say Washington did not learn about Ukraine’s attack until after Kiev launched the operation.
