The US authorized Ukraine to use weapons to attack Kursk.
Pentagon deputy spokeswoman Sabrina Singh said the U.S. allowed Ukraine to use American weapons in its attack on the Kursk region.
According to RIA Novosti, Pentagon Deputy Spokesperson Sabrina Singh announced on August 22 (Washington time) that the US is allowing Ukraine to use American weapons in its attack on the Kursk region.
"Our approaches allow Ukraine to conduct counterattacks in Kursk and Sumy. Therefore, they are able to defend themselves against Russian attacks from these areas," Pentagon Deputy Spokesperson Sabrina Singh said in an official statement.
At the same time, according to Singh, despite Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's statements about the objectives of the attack on the Kursk region, the US still has doubts in this context.
The day before, the Ukrainian Army's Special Operations Forces reported that they had used Western-made HIMARS missile launchers on pontoon bridges in the Kursk region.
Furthermore, a US military official told RIA Novosti that they had previously refused to acknowledge that the Ukrainian armed forces had transferred these MLRS to that location when attacking Russian territory. The official also mentioned that Kyiv needed to ensure that the Ukrainian army only used the donated weapons within the limits set by the US.
On August 6th, units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces launched an offensive to seize territory in the Kursk region of Russia. The Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Valery Gerasimov, stated that their advance had been halted.
According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, as of August 22, the fighting in this area resulted in the loss of more than 4,700 soldiers and 68 tanks to the enemy.
In the Kursk, Belgorod, and Bryansk regions, counter-terrorism operations are being implemented to ensure the safety of the population.
The Ukrainian forces' incursion into Russia's Kursk province has become a new issue, further escalating tensions between the US and Russia. Moscow accuses Washington of supporting Ukraine's attack on Russian territory, while the US maintains no involvement in Kyiv's attack on Russia. US officials say Washington was unaware of the Ukrainian attack until after Kyiv launched its operation.
