Super Typhoon Yagi passes through Hong Kong
For the first time this year, the Hong Kong Observatory has issued a level 8 storm warning, lasting until noon on September 6.
Earlier, in the announcement at 6:20 p.m. on September 5, Super Typhoon Yagi was described as an "extremely strong" storm, with maximum sustained winds near the center of the storm reaching 210 km/h. Wind intensity is expected to remain or even increase.
In response to the storm, activities in the city have been suspended. Classes and public transportation services have also been suspended.
7:51 AM: 708 flights scheduled, 80% operating normally
Of the 708 flights scheduled for September 5, about 80% are expected to operate normally, the airport authority said. About 50 of the 916 flights were cancelled on September 5. However, Hong Kong Airport Authority Chief Executive Steven Yiu Siu-chung described the airport's operations as "generally normal".
11:05 AM: Passengers worried about traffic conditions
According to the South China Morning Post, while the airport authority said that 80% of flights on September 6 were expected to depart on time, many passengers were worried about traffic conditions, so they arrived early and stayed overnight. Some passengers stayed in the airport lobby.

11:29 AM: 5 injured, 79 reports of fallen trees
As of 10 a.m. on September 6, local authorities had recorded 79 cases of fallen trees and five injuries. Two men and three women were injured and were immediately treated at local hospitals.
There are currently no reports of landslides.

11:33 AM: Ferry service will resume
Sun Ferry announced that ferry services connecting Central, Cheung Chau and Mui Wo will resume at 1:45pm and 1:50pm.
11:43 AM: People exercise in the rain
Despite the heavy rain, people still took their pets out for exercise. In Tsim Sha Tsui, a man ran in the rain, while a woman walked her dog.

The observatory said rain bands associated with Typhoon Yagi would continue to affect the surrounding area, bringing showers to Hong Kong. Very heavy showers are expected at times.
11:47 AM: Super Typhoon Yagi passes through Hong Kong
At 11 a.m., Super Typhoon Yagi was located 400 kilometers southwest of Hong Kong. The storm is expected to move west or west-northwest at about 15 kilometers per hour toward Hainan Island.
Over the next few hours, Yagi continued to move westward and gradually moved away from the city. Winds in Hong Kong are expected to weaken.
12:01 PM: No more long lines of tourists waiting for taxis at the airport
At 11:20, at the airport, there was no longer a long line of passengers waiting for taxis at the pick-up and drop-off area. However, some travelers complained that many drivers were asking for much higher service fees.

12:40 PM: Storm warning downgraded to level 3
At 12:40 p.m. on September 6, the Observatory lowered the typhoon warning signal to level 3. However, rain bands associated with Super Typhoon Yagi will continue to produce showers in the city.
12:42 PM: People rush back to work
Rain is falling heavier in some areas, even as Typhoon Yagi moves away from Hong Kong. As the Observatory prepares to downgrade the storm signal to a level 3, people are preparing to return to work.
