People in Nghe An province are buying supplies to prepare for the rainy and stormy season.
Nghe An is entering the peak of the rainy and stormy season. In various localities, people have proactively equipped themselves with some items to prepare for incidents caused by natural disasters.
These past few days, electrical appliance stores in Dai Dong commune, Thanh Chuong district, have been crowded with people buying rechargeable lamps, flashlights, and headlamps. Nguyen Duy Hoa, the owner of a store, said: “In rural areas, sudden power outages are common during storms. Therefore, rechargeable lamps and flashlights are essential. Every year, at the beginning of the rainy season, we import a quantity of rechargeable products: LED lamps, flashlights… to meet the needs of the people, peaking from September onwards, when the rainy season intensifies.”
According to surveys, rechargeable lamps on the market are currently very diverse, with prices ranging from 50,000 to 500,000 VND per unit. These products originate from Vietnam, Thailand, Japan, etc. After a full charge, the battery lasts up to 6-7 hours.
"This rainy season, I bought four rechargeable light bulbs to equip the rooms, to serve my family's needs during power outages caused by storms," said Trinh Xuan Thanh, a resident of Dai Dong commune (Thanh Chuong district).
Currently, there is a high demand for rechargeable lamps, so stores have to constantly restock them. In addition, products such as flashlights, headlamps, rechargeable fans, batteries, and power banks are also being purchased in large quantities by consumers.
Ms. Dau Quynh Anh, an employee at the Dien May Xanh store in Do Luong town (Do Luong district), said: “During storms, the demand for mobile phones, tablets, etc., is very high. People are buying power banks to stay updated on weather information and to maintain uninterrupted communication. The peak has been in the past few days; at our store, the number of customers has increased by 50% compared to normal.”
For aquaculture farmers in coastal areas, maintaining a consistent power supply is absolutely essential. Even a slight oversight or lack of careful preparation could lead to significant losses if power outages occur.
Mr. Hoang Van Tin, a shrimp farmer in Quynh Bang (Quynh Luu district), said: “We have to maintain aeration 24/7 during heavy rain to prevent water stratification, ensure a healthy pond environment, and prevent water shock for the shrimp. Therefore, during the rainy season, we have to check the operation of the generators; if they are broken, they must be repaired or replaced. I have now purchased an additional generator to ensure smooth operation.”
Currently, most poultry farms raise chickens in cold-storage facilities, so maintaining the correct temperature is essential. If there is a prolonged power outage, high stocking density, or enclosed conditions, the chickens will die in large numbers.
Therefore, all livestock farms must equip themselves with generators; prepare gasoline, diesel fuel, and purchase additional batteries for use. As a result, the market for these items is quite active before the rainy season.
During the rainy season, people buy high-strength cables, turnbuckles, ropes, and other similar materials to secure houses, fish cages, boats, and trees. Therefore, these types of ropes sell quite well. The price of these ropes usually ranges from 10,000 to 30,000 VND per meter, depending on the material and strength.
With 44 cages and tens of tons of fish inside, this is a significant asset for Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Hue (Nghi Quang commune, Nghi Loc district). Therefore, before the rainy and stormy season, Mr. Hue always prepares meticulously for securing and reinforcing the cages.
“Heavy rain, strong winds, rising water levels, and swift currents mean that if the rafts aren't properly secured, they'll be swept away by the waves, causing significant damage. Therefore, they must be reinforced carefully with tensioning ropes and cables. The cost of tensioning ropes alone during each rainy and stormy season can amount to millions of dong,” Mr. Hue said.
From now until the end of the year is the peak season for storms and floods, therefore, people need to be proactive in prevention and response. Securing and reinforcing houses, trees, livestock sheds, cages, boats, etc., is crucial for protecting property; at the same time, equipping with rechargeable lights and generators to ensure daily life and livestock production is also essential. However, when using these devices, people also need to understand the operating principles and usage to ensure safety and prevent fires and explosions.
