The field pumping station at Ben Thuy Pumping Station No. 3 includes 2 machines, each machine has a pumping capacity of 540 m3 water/hour

A representative of Vinh Urban Management and Development Infrastructure Joint Stock Company said: This is a support installation plan, supplementing the drainage capacity at Pumping Station No. 3. Currently, because the water level of Lam River at high tide is balanced and at times higher than the water level inside the dike in the regulating lake area of Pumping Station No. 3, the drainage is very slow. If the sluice is opened, at 5-7am, the water level outside Lam River is high and flows in, so the sluice must be closed.

Currently, the city has 3 drainage pumping stations in 3 areas: Ben Thuy, Cau Den (Vinh Tan) and Cua Nam, each station has a capacity of 20,000 m3 water/hour. At Ben Thuy Pumping Station No. 3, the pump is still operating but due to heavy rain, drainage is still slow. Therefore, the city must install additional drainage support machines in case of heavy rain on the evening of September 23 and September 24 when the Lam River rises.

Observations show that, nearly 3 hours after the rain stopped, the water level in Ben Thuy ward in particular and the streets in the southern part of Vinh city in general has receded quickly, the streets are basically dry, only some residential areas in Vinh Tan and Trung Do wards in low-lying areas are flooded. Compared to previous heavy rains, this time, the city only focused on directing the clearing of the drainage system, jacking up manholes clogged with garbage; some previously heavily flooded areas such as Vinh market area, 3/2 bridge on Le Nin street have not had to install field pumping stations.

Mr. Tran Quang Lam - Vice Chairman of Vinh City People's Committee said: Installing a field pumping station to support and supplement Ben Thuy Pumping Station No. 3 is to proactively deal with the situation of continued heavy rain and the water level outside the Lam River dike is higher than inside, forcing the drainage to be closed. The city must operate both drainage pump systems to minimize flooding of residential areas and streets. Along with installing field pumps at Station No. 3, the city will guide traffic on the road along the Lam River (National Highway 46C).
