Vinh City installs large-capacity temporary pumping station.
To prevent flooding caused by prolonged heavy rain, on the afternoon of September 23, the Vinh City Disaster Prevention and Rescue Command installed an additional large-capacity mobile pumping station at Ben Thuy Pumping Station No. 3.

The field pumping station at Ben Thuy Pumping Station No. 3 consists of 2 pumps, each with a drainage capacity of 540 m³.3 water/hour.
A representative from Vinh Urban Management and Development Infrastructure Joint Stock Company stated: This is a plan to install additional drainage capacity at Pumping Station No. 3. Currently, due to the Lam River's water level at high tide being higher than the water level inside the dike in the regulating reservoir area of Pumping Station No. 3, drainage is very slow. If the sluice gates are opened, the high water level of the Lam River outside will flow in between 5-7 am, forcing the gates to be closed.

Currently, the city has 3 drainage pumping stations located in 3 areas: Ben Thuy, Cau Den (Vinh Tan), and Cua Nam, each with a capacity of 20,000 m³.3 Water/hour. At Ben Thuy Pumping Station No. 3, the pumps are still operating, but due to heavy rain, drainage is still slow. Therefore, the city has to install additional pumps to assist in drainage in case heavy rain on the evening of September 23rd and throughout September 24th coincides with the rising water level of the Lam River.

Observations show that nearly three hours after the rain stopped, the water level in Ben Thuy ward in particular, and in the southern streets of Vinh city in general, receded rapidly. Most streets were dry, with only a few low-lying residential areas in Vinh Tan and Trung Do wards still experiencing flooding. Compared to previous heavy rains, this time the city focused on clearing the drainage system and unclogging manholes blocked by debris; some previously heavily flooded areas, such as the Vinh market area and the 3/2 bridge on Le Nin street, did not require the installation of temporary pumping stations.

Mr. Tran Quang Lam, Vice Chairman of the Vinh City People's Committee, said: The installation of a temporary pumping station to support and supplement the Ben Thuy No. 3 pumping station aims to proactively address situations where heavy rain continues and the water level outside the Lam River dike is higher than inside, forcing the closure of drainage gates. The city must operate both pumping systems to minimize flooding in residential areas and streets. Along with installing the temporary pump at Station No. 3, the city will also direct traffic on the Lam River embankment road (National Highway 46C).

Forecasts indicate that Vinh City and some areas in North Central Vietnam will experience rainfall of 90 to 100 mm on the night of September 23rd and during the day of September 24th.
