Farmers watched with sorrow as their rice seedlings sprouted and withered due to continuous rain.
The continuous rains that poured down on the rice fields caused many rice crops in Con Cuong district to sprout even though they were ripe or had already been harvested.

The family of Ms. Lo Thi Quy, from Na Duoi village, Mau Duc commune, had hoped for a yield of 3.5 quintals per sao (approximately 350 kg per 1000 square meters) this harvest season. However, heavy rains caused the rice in their 3 sao (approximately 3000 square meters) to sprout before they could be harvested.
Speaking in a sorrowful voice, Mrs. Quy said: "For nearly 10 days now, there has been heavy rain in the commune. Although the rice was ripe, we couldn't harvest it in time, and because of the heavy rain, we don't know where to dry it after harvesting. Now, harvesting it is pointless. This year, we've lost everything."

Also in Na Duoi village, Mau Duc commune, this year Mr. Quang Van Binh's family planted 3 sao (approximately 0.3 hectares) of rice. Taking advantage of the dry weather, his family mobilized all their manpower to harvest. However, after harvesting, heavy rain prevented drying, and the rice sprouted after 3 days. Mr. Binh shared: "The continuous rain for several days caused the rice to sprout. This rice can only be used as animal feed..."

In the 2024 crop season, Mau Duc commune planted over 300 hectares of rice. However, this year's crop production is facing many difficulties for the farmers. In addition to the impact of pests and diseases, they are now also facing rain.
To date, the entire commune has harvested approximately 200 hectares; however, due to the effects of rain and humidity, more than 40 hectares of rice have germinated. The remaining unharvested rice fields, approximately 128.4 hectares, are flooded, flattened, and germinating.

Mr. Vi Van Vuong, Vice Chairman of the Mau Duc Commune People's Committee, said: "Currently, the entire commune still has about 128 hectares of rice that have not yet been harvested, mostly submerged in water; many areas have also sprouted. The total estimated damage to the rice crop is over 7 billion VND. In the coming days, if the weather is sunny and dry, we will instruct the people to take advantage of the opportunity to harvest as much as possible."
