Farmers sadly watch rice sprout and rot due to continuous rain
Consecutive rains pouring down on the fields have caused many areas of rice in Con Cuong district to sprout when they are just ripe and have been harvested.

The family of Ms. Lo Thi Quy, Na Duoi village, Mau Duc commune, expected the yield of this crop to reach 3.5 quintals/sao. However, due to the continuous rain, 3 sao of rice sprouted right in the field before they could be harvested.
With a sad voice, Mrs. Quy said: "Because it has been raining heavily in the commune for nearly 10 days. Although the rice has ripened, it was not harvested in time and there was too much rain so we didn't know where to dry it. Now the harvest is like nothing. This year is considered a total loss."

Also in Na Duoi village, Mau Duc commune, this year, Mr. Quang Van Binh's family planted 3 sao of rice. Taking advantage of the dry weather, his family mobilized all the manpower to harvest. However, after harvesting, there was heavy rain so it was impossible to dry the rice, and the rice sprouted after 3 days. Mr. Binh shared: "The continuous rain for several days caused the rice to sprout. This amount of rice can only be used as animal feed...".

In the 2024 crop season, Mau Duc commune planted more than 300 hectares of rice. However, this year, people's crop production encountered many difficulties. In addition to the impact of pests and diseases, there was also rain.
Up to this point, the whole commune has harvested about 200 hectares, however, due to the influence of rain and humidity, more than 40 hectares of rice have germinated. The remaining unharvested rice area in the field, about 128.4 hectares, was flooded and germinated.

Mr. Vi Van Vuong - Vice Chairman of Mau Duc Commune People's Committee said: "Currently, the whole commune still has about 128 hectares of rice that have not been harvested yet, most of which are submerged in water; many areas have also sprouted. The total damage to damaged rice areas is estimated at more than 7 billion VND. In the coming days, if the weather is sunny, we will direct people to harvest as much as possible."
