Wishing to go to school to learn letters like other children of the same age, children in the mountainous region of Nghe An, even though they are only 8 years old, have to leave their parents, live independently, and take care of themselves during their school days.
Luong Minh Primary Boarding School (Tuong Duong) has 525 students, but 299 of them are boarding students. This is where children of the following ethnic groups study: Thai, Kho Mu, O Du. Therefore, Luong Minh Primary Boarding School organizes to gather students to main schools to implement boarding; students will eat and sleep at school. Therefore, students in villages such as Ca Moong, Xop Chao, Xop Mat, Minh Phuong... are only 8-10 years old when they leave home to find education. Therefore, in our free time, we often stay close to the students to encourage them, helping them to ease their homesickness so that they can concentrate on studying well." To ensure nutrition and help students have delicious meals, teachers pay attention to changing the main dishes in the meal, one day meat, another day fish, eggs... To get to school, Hap Van Khanh has to walk to the boat and then go down to the upstream wharf (at the foot of Ban Ve hydroelectric dam) and then continue traveling by motorbike for nearly 1 hour to get to school. Khanh said: "Because my house is far from school, I have to stay in the dormitory. At school, we can learn to read and write, and the teachers cook delicious dishes for us."
