Residents of remote villages in Nga My commune, Tuong Duong border district, reported that the current traffic conditions are very difficult for their children to get to school, and the consumption of agricultural products is also limited. During the rainy season, many children have to stay at school because the roads are slippery and their parents cannot come to pick them up.

Two weeks after the flood, the roads leading to the inner villages of Nga My commune such as Na Kho, Xop Kho, Na Ngan are still muddy. Many sections of the road are muddy and have stagnant water, forcing motorbikes to be pushed on foot. Vehicles carrying raw materials to Xop Kho village to build bridges often get stuck in mud because of the degraded road conditions.

From the center of Nga My commune, to get to Na Kho village, you have to go through Canh, Trang, and Xop Kho villages with a distance of more than 20 km of dirt road, many sharp turns and steep slopes. In addition, you also have to go through the overflows of streams and creeks.

Nga My is an inner commune of Tuong Duong district, more than 60 km from the district center. The population of Nga My commune is more than 1,100 households distributed into 9 villages, including 2 regions, the outer region and the inner region. The outer region has 5 villages living along National Highway 48C, with favorable natural conditions and basic infrastructure. The inner region has 4 villages living in the buffer zone of Pu Huong Nature Reserve, along Nam Ngan stream and Nam Kho stream, including Trang village, Canh village, Xop Kho village and Na Kho village.

Na Kho village chief Lu Van Uon said: “From the village to the center of Nga My commune is about 20 km, the roads are muddy, the most difficult thing is the children's education. Children from grade 3 and up go to the commune center to stay and study, and on weekends their parents or grandparents come to pick them up and take them home.

But the roads are so bad that when it rains, many children have to stay at school or stay at relatives' houses because their parents cannot pick them up when motorbikes cannot go. And walking is too far.

Na Kho villagers live mainly on farming and raising livestock. Therefore, selling agricultural products is very important. During the harvest season, if the roads are muddy because of rain, most of the agricultural products cannot be sold. "Although there are traders who come to the village to buy acacia trees, corn, rice, medicinal herbs, buffalo, cows, fish, and even local chickens and ducks, if the roads are slippery when it rains, they will not come to buy," said Lo Van Son, a resident of Na Kho village.

Mr. Kha Van Thu - Vice Chairman of Nga My Commune People's Committee said that transportation in the 4 inner villages still faces many difficulties, the dirt road system can only be used in the dry season, the rainy season is often isolated due to the rising water level of the two streams Nam Ngan and Nam Kho. In particular, half of Xop Kho village, Canh village and the entire Na Kho and Na Ngan villages are often cut off when the water level rises.

Up to now, the leaders of Nga My commune said that the traffic routes to the inner villages are still a "difficulty on top of difficulty" factor, along with the impact of natural disasters and landslides, causing production, daily life and study of children here to still face many difficulties.
