Although pepper prices have started to increase since the 2023 crop year, people have focused on investing and caring for pepper plants, but the output is still expected to decrease significantly compared to last year due to the impact of unfavorable weather.

Local pepper growers are actively tending their plants in preparation for the new harvest. For areas of infected or dead pepper, farmers should avoid replanting and instead switch to other suitable crops.

In addition, growers need to closely monitor market developments to adjust their investment levels appropriately. They also need to increase care and pest control so that pepper plants can grow sustainably in the following crops. The price of Brazilian ASTA 570 black pepper was at USD 6,400/ton. The price of Malaysian ASTA black pepper remained stable at USD 8,700/ton; the price of this country's ASTA white pepper reached USD 11,200/ton.

Vietnamese black pepper prices are stable today, trading at 6,500 USD/ton for 500 g/l; 550 g/l at 6,800 USD/ton; white pepper prices at 9,500 USD/ton.

By the end of the third quarter, pepper exports from Vietnam and Brazil – the world’s two leading pepper producing countries – recorded a year-on-year decline. In contrast, pepper exports from Indonesia and India increased sharply, indicating a change in the distribution of supply in the international market.

In the third quarter, black pepper export prices in Malaysia and Vietnam increased significantly from 18 to 22.4%. In contrast, black pepper prices in Brazil and Indonesia decreased by 7.5% and 2.2% respectively due to supply from the new harvest, while global demand did not increase significantly. In October, black pepper prices in Indonesia and Brazil continued to decrease, affecting other producers in the market.

In Vietnam, domestic black pepper prices fell 3-6% in the third quarter and another 2-4% in the first 20 days of October, down to VND143,000-144,500/kg. The reason is that agricultural companies, agents and intermediaries are actively selling to raise capital to invest in coffee - an agricultural product in the harvest season. However, low domestic inventories still help pepper prices remain high, nearly 80% higher than at the beginning of the year and double the same period last year.
