Commercial chicken farming using Blockchain technology.
The Nghe An Provincial Agricultural Extension Center has successfully developed a model of "Commercial chicken farming according to VietGAHP standards, applying Blockchain technology" in Thinh Son commune, Do Luong district.
The model was implemented with funding from the local agricultural extension program, involving 2,700 hybrid Ho chickens, with one participating household: Mr. Nguyen Cong Hai's family in Thinh Son commune.
Before implementing the model, the Agricultural Extension Center conducts surveys to select locations and holds meetings with local people to select participating households. Farmers participating in the model receive 50% support for hybrid Ho chicken breeds, mixed feed, disinfectant solutions, vaccines, and biological products; and 100% support for VietGAHP assessment consulting costs. In addition, participating households must submit written applications and commitments to fulfill all requirements and ensure full and timely matching funds to achieve the set goals.
Before bringing chickens in for farming, people receive training on technical procedures from housing, breeding stock, feed, vaccination procedures, criteria for applying VietGAHP standards, and how to apply Blockchain technology to chicken farming.
The households implementing the model have sufficient and timely matching funds, and their barns are equipped with automatic feeding and drinking systems, as well as cooling fans for summer and winter. The livestock provided meet technical standards; they are healthy, disease-free, and have a clear origin from reputable production and business establishments, with quality inspection certificates for the livestock.

After 4 months of rearing, the survival rate reached 95%, the average weight at slaughter was 2.6 kg/pig, the selling price was 80,000 VND/kg, the profit was over 100 million VND, and the company was certified as meeting VietGAHP standards.
The model's success lies in the fact that the chickens grow and develop well, are minimally affected by environmental factors, are disease-free, have a high survival rate, and the chicken meat products meet quality standards and are certified as meeting VietGAHP standards, making them easy to sell.
The application of Blockchain technology has helped livestock farmers collect, store, and transmit (digitized) data from the production site to the farm owner, company, and state management agencies such as the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine and market management agencies. Products ready for sale can be traded through electronic sales channels. Buyers can track the origin and source of the goods. This technology helps farmers proactively control environmental, breed, and feed standards.
Mr. Nguyen Cong Hai, a farmer participating in the model, shared: "This was my first time raising broiler chickens on a large scale according to VietGAHP standards. The initial investment was high, and I was initially hesitant and faced difficulties. Applying blockchain technology is one of the breakthrough technological trends. We contacted the National Food Safety and Nutrition Institute (NFSI) to register an account and use the VFSC software in our farming process to trace the origin of our products according to the 'from farm to table' principle. Using the VFSC software application provides a system of regular alerts and reminders, only using farming supplies with clear origins and quality, controlling supplies, chemicals, expiration dates, and managing costs and waste. This method resulted in significantly higher weight gain and survival rates for the chickens, and an efficiency increase of over 20% compared to traditional farming methods."
This is the first large-scale, VietGAHP-standard broiler chicken farming model in the commune, applying Blockchain technology. The model requires significant investment and matching funds, but the participating households have been very supportive and cooperative. The successful model produces high-quality, clean products, certified to VietGAHP standards, ensuring a favorable market. The products are supplied to schools in Do Luong district and to clean food supermarkets in Nghe An and Hanoi. We will continue to promote and expand this model throughout the area.
