6 special things you may not know about tubeless tires and tube tires

Users are probably no longer unfamiliar with a vehicle equipped with tubeless tires or tires with tubes. However, not everyone clearly understands the difference between these two types of tires and how they affect the vehicle's performance.

Below are the differences between tubeless tires and tube tires, which you may not know.

1. Avoid frequent flat tires

One of the main reasons for a puncture in a tube tire is when the inner tube gets caught between the tire and the rim. This may sound absurd, but it can happen over time. Additionally, any sharp object will cause the tube tire to deflate quickly and prevent your vehicle from moving.

But with tubeless tires, you will forget about such situations. Halobutyl or chlorobutyl film with excellent heat resistance and oxidation resistance is coated on the inside of the tire wall, allowing air to be trapped and preventing air from escaping.

In case you accidentally run over a nail, the puncture in the tire will not go flat quickly, so you do not need to rush to remove the nail from the tire and can still drive a short distance.

2. Can use glue to seal the hole

Another finishing feature of tubeless tires compared to tube tires is that it allows the tire manufacturer or user to apply multiple layers of liquid sealant on the inside of the tire wall. When the tire is punctured, the liquid sealant will automatically flow out and fill the hole, preventing air from escaping and ensuring that the tire pressure does not change suddenly. Therefore, you do not need to change the tire or wait for a tire repairman to come and fix it.

3. Air escapes more slowly

During the journey, you will encounter a puncture and the air inside the tire can leak out. The difference between tubeless and tube tires is that the process of reducing the air pressure inside the tubeless tire is slower, which gives you enough time to safely pull over and replace or repair the punctured tire.

In addition, the driver will not lose control suddenly, helping to minimize possible accidents. While a punctured tube tire will cause the air to escape immediately. This is very dangerous because it makes the vehicle lose balance, especially on the highway and when running at high speed.

4. Does not create unnecessary friction

When the vehicle moves fast, the tire with tube will have friction between the tube and the tire. When these two parts are in frequent contact, the temperature of the tube will increase. When this situation continues continuously, the inner tube can explode, which is very dangerous at high speeds. But with tubeless tires, such risk is almost zero thanks to good heat dissipation.

5. Light weight, reduced fuel consumption

The most important advantage of tubeless tires is that they are lighter than tube tires, although the difference is only about 0.5 kg. This light weight helps the vehicle to be balanced and move easily over rough terrain. In addition, the light weight of tubeless tires also helps reduce fuel consumption. The truth is that heavy components will require more power from the engine. Therefore, tube tires will consume more fuel.

6. High stability

Another difference between the two is that tube tires are prone to pressure imbalances within the tire. The vehicle will lose balance when accelerating, and any deformation of the wheel can be dangerous while driving. Meanwhile, the airtight design of tubeless tires can provide better pressure balance even at high speeds.

Nowadays, tubeless tires are commonly used on passenger cars, while tube tires are still used on trucks. Tubeless tires are also often more expensive than tube tires. However, in terms of safety and durability, tubeless tires still have superior advantages, so despite their high price, tubeless tires are still the choice of the majority of consumers today.

On the contrary, the advantages of tube tires are cheap, easy to replace and repair quickly and easily if there is a problem. The repair cost is cheap, not too high. The disadvantages are that tube tires are quite heavy, leading to high fuel consumption of the vehicle during movement, easy to encounter tire explosions when running at high speed or running over nails, sharp objects and the safety is only at a relative level.
