To keep the flame of the Nghe Tinh Soviet revolution burning brightly in the hearts of every Nghe An citizen, spreading strongly to compatriots across the country and international friends, on January 15, 1960, the Party Delegation of the Ministry of Culture issued Decision No. 106 - QD/VH on the establishment of the Nghe Tinh Soviet Museum under the direct leadership of the Provincial Party Committee and People's Committees of the two provinces of Nghe An and Ha Tinh. In just a short time, a large number of artifacts were mobilized for the exhibition. After 3 years of construction and preparation of necessary conditions, on the occasion of the 33rd anniversary of Nghe Tinh Soviet Day (September 12, 1963), Nghe Tinh Soviet Museum was officially inaugurated and opened to welcome visitors, researchers, and commemorators...

In the early period, although the number of documents and artifacts was small, the art and display methods were limited, the presence of the Nghe Tinh Soviet Museum met the earnest aspirations of the people of the whole country in general and the two provinces of Nghe An and Ha Tinh in particular, contributing worthily to the resistance war against the US to save the country.

On the occasion of the 34th anniversary of the Party's founding (February 3, 1964), President Ho Chi Minh respectfully signed the "Preface" for the Nghe Tinh Soviet Museum. That speaks to the great historical stature of the Nghe Tinh Soviet and the important role of the Nghe Tinh Soviet Museum in preserving and promoting the values of the Nghe Tinh Soviet, contributing to the good work of political and ideological education for the people, especially the young generation.

Then, on May 19, 1964, Prime Minister Pham Van Dong visited and planted a souvenir tree at the Museum. Since then, the Nghe Tinh Soviet Museum has been honored to welcome many leaders of the Party, State, ministries, central branches, other provinces, our people and international friends to visit, sightsee, research and study.

In 1965, the US imperialists expanded the war of destruction in the North, Vinh city became the center of enemy attacks, the Nghe Tinh Soviet Museum closed its exhibition hall, evacuated and switched to wartime service.

In a short time, 3 level 4 houses were built for display in Kim Lien village (Nam Dan district). The display content was suitable for wartime conditions. Despite the difficult conditions of the war, the Nghe Tinh Soviet Museum still served visitors attentively.

In addition to on-site exhibitions, the Museum has built a mobile exhibition with compact images, bringing them to serve agencies, enterprises and trenches serving army units, youth volunteers on air defense battlefields; serving Party Congresses, Youth Unions at all levels such as in Ky Anh and Huong Son districts (Ha Tinh)...

Many units of soldiers and young volunteers, before leaving for the mission of supporting the front line or marching through this area, came to the Nghe Tinh Soviet Museum to gain more traditional strength from their fathers and brothers, turning determination into strength, and achieving many feats in the fight against the enemy. Although the war with the US imperialists was still raging, international delegations still came to the Museum, which was a great source of encouragement for the Nghe Tinh Soviet Museum.

On May 18, 1971, the Soviet Navy delegation visited the Nghe Tinh Soviet Museum and recorded their impressions: "I admire you so much. With a newly established self-defense force, equipped with only rudimentary weapons, sticks and spears, the Vietnamese proletariat overthrew the French imperialist government in 1930-1931. In this resistance war against the US to save the country, victory definitely belongs to you."

On April 15, 1974, the delegation of Lao Party and State leaders wrote: “After visiting the Soviet Museum, we see that the Communist Party of Vietnam, since its inception, has truly deserved to be a heroic Party, a model Party, a glorious Party. We are honored to stand beside you.”

After the country was reunified in 1975, together with the people of Vinh city, they healed the wounds of war and rebuilt the country. In 1980, the Nghe Tinh Soviet Museum returned to Vinh city to continue its work. The museum's exhibition hall now has only one floor below, the upper floor was hit by American bombs, and the garden is overgrown with grass and trees. In addition to cleaning up the consequences of war and repairing the exhibition hall, museum staff and scientists at the central and local levels developed a new exhibition outline suitable for the current economic conditions.

In 1980, after returning to Vinh city, in addition to cleaning up the consequences of war and repairing the exhibition house, the staff of the Nghe Tinh Soviet Museum, together with scientists at the central and local levels, developed a new exhibition outline. Despite difficult economic conditions and limited exhibition methods, the Nghe Tinh Soviet Museum now had a campus of 2 hectares, with an exhibition area of 10 rooms with 600 m2, enough to demonstrate the heroic fighting spirit of the Nghe Tinh people in 1930-1931.

By 1995, with the investment of the Central Government, the Nghe Tinh Soviet Museum had upgraded all its interior and exterior. The content and display methods are modern with sound and attractive display techniques.

From 2005 to present, with the attention and investment of the Nghe An Provincial Party Committee and People's Committee, the Nghe Tinh Soviet Museum has built a "Memorial to patriotic and revolutionary soldiers imprisoned at Vinh Prison"; added thematic exhibition rooms "Vinh Prison 1930-1945", "The life and revolutionary career of VI Lenin", "The life and career of President Kaysone Phomvihane and the friendship between Vietnam and Laos".

Unique features in the Vietnamese Museum system

The Nghe Tinh Soviet Museum is a historical event memorial museum, one of the three earliest museums established in the Vietnamese museum system. In particular, this is the only museum that President Ho Chi Minh signed the Preface on February 3, 1964. That speaks to the great historical stature of the Nghe Tinh Soviet and the important position and role of the Nghe Tinh Soviet Museum in the cause of building and developing culture in general and the cause of preserving and promoting the cultural heritage of Nghe in particular.

Over 60 years of construction, development and growth, the Nghe Tinh Soviet Museum has collected and preserved more than 16,000 valuable artifacts and documents about the Nghe Tinh Soviet movement 1930-1931; served tens of millions of visitors, inventoried 250 relics, compiled records to rank 47 national relics; successfully organized many seminars, symposiums, and researched scientific topics at all levels; been flexible in propaganda activities to bring the Nghe Tinh Soviet to the general public in all regions of the country and abroad; always innovated and created exhibition work to attract visitors.

In particular, over the past decades, the Nghe Tinh Soviet Museum has also been a place where many families who are relatives of people who have contributed to the revolution have devoted and sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland. Over time, most of the party members from 1930-1931 or the Nghe Tinh Soviet soldiers have passed away, and historical evidence of their revolutionary activities no longer exists. Therefore, thanks to the activities of exploiting records and documents about comrades who participated in revolutionary activities and were imprisoned by the enemy during the Nghe Tinh Soviet movement, which are being stored at the Security Records Department - Ministry of Public Security of the Nghe Tinh Soviet Museum, it has brought joy and happiness, contributing to changing the lives of thousands of relatives of families who have contributed to the revolution. This is one of the most meaningful and practical activities and also the honor and pride of the Museum to contribute a part of its efforts to the work of gratitude that the Party and State are increasingly promoting and expanding.

The Nghe Tinh Soviet Museum is not only an environment for learning and exploring history but also a spiritual tourist destination with the "Nghe Tinh Soviet Martyrs Memorial House" located in the Museum grounds. Located on a part of the land of the former Vinh Prison, the Memorial House is a sacred place to worship nearly 2,000 Nghe Tinh Soviet martyrs. Visiting the Museum, respectfully offering fresh flowers at the altar of the martyrs, silently admiring the steles honoring the outstanding children who died for the green of the homeland at a very young age will bring unforgettable emotions to every visitor when visiting this place. This is also one of the unique features of the Nghe Tinh Soviet Museum.

In addition to welcoming visitors, participating in seminars, thematic discussions, meeting and exchanging with historical witnesses, learning history through permanent exhibitions, the Museum also focuses on bringing the museum's exhibition content to the public by building compact mobile exhibitions, starting from the idea of promoting the images and artifacts currently available at the museum. From the actual needs of visitors, the suggestions of history teachers, the Nghe Tinh Soviet Museum has combined the addition of exhibitions, closely following the content of the textbook program to build mobile exhibitions at schools according to the plan "bringing Nghe Tinh Soviet education into schools" which is always expected by teachers and students.

The Museum has currently collected nearly 6,000 files and portraits of people participating in the revolutionary movement who were imprisoned by the French colonialists in prisons from 1930-1945.

The change in the form of professional activities and the quality of exhibitions with modern methods has attracted more and more visitors to the Nghe Tinh Soviet Museum in terms of quantity and diversity of subjects. Every year, the Museum welcomes more than 50,000 visitors on-site and serves mobile exhibitions at festivals in the province.

The unit has also been proactive, creative and innovative in its activities to propagate and educate the Party's revolutionary traditions in 1930-1931, such as: organizing cultural exchanges, meeting historical witnesses, talking about traditions, historical competitions... with students and young people in the localities; or coordinating with newspapers and television stations to introduce a glorious period of struggle of the people of Nghe Tinh.

After more than 60 years of operation, the staff of Nghe Tinh Soviet Museum has grown more and more mature.
