Nghe An Oncology Hospital has achieved advanced level in technical expertise.
On November 21, 2024, the Nghe An Department of Health issued Decision No. 1627/QD-SYT officially classifying the Nghe An Oncology Hospital's technical expertise level as specialized, effective from January 1, 2025.
The classification of technical expertise is a new provision included in the Law on Medical Examination and Treatment No. 15/2023/QH15 dated January 9, 2023, and Government Decree No. 96/2023/NĐ-CP dated December 30, 2023, detailing some articles of the Law on Medical Examination and Treatment.

Notably, the classification of technical expertise does not depend on administrative level but is based on four groups of competencies of medical examination and treatment facilities, including: capacity to provide medical examination and treatment services and scope of professional activities; capacity to participate in medical practice training; capacity to participate in technical support for other medical examination and treatment facilities; and capacity for scientific research in medicine.

Accordingly, Nghe An Oncology Hospital is a specialized hospital at the highest level in the North Central region, offering comprehensive cancer diagnosis and treatment services including: medical oncology, surgical oncology, radiotherapy, nuclear medicine, palliative care, interventional radiology for cancer diagnosis and treatment, immunohistochemistry testing, and cancer gene mutation testing. The hospital applies many advanced scientific and technical advancements from around the world to its clinical practice.
Since its establishment, the hospital has successfully implemented many specialized and advanced techniques that were previously only possible at central-level hospitals, such as: laryngeal cancer surgery, breast cancer reconstructive surgery, endoscopic pancreaticoduodenectomy, Maxio robot-guided lung biopsy, radiofrequency ablation (RFA) for liver and lung tumors, immunohistochemical staining, gene sequencing, radiotherapy, SPEC/CT… At the same time, it has promoted the transfer of advanced specialized techniques to medical examination and treatment units in the region, creating a foundation for the sustainable development of the healthcare system.

Among these, one project won the Special Prize and many others at the Nghe An Provincial Science and Technology Innovation Awards.
In particular, the hospital has been granted an operating code for the Ethics Committee in biomedical research at the institutional level by the Department of Science, Technology and Training - Ministry of Health; and has been assessed and certified with GCP (Good Clinical Practice) according to Decision No. 18/QD-K2DT dated February 7, 2024. The hospital has implemented surveys, received research dossiers, and conducted assessments of 12 multinational, multi-center clinical trials on breast cancer, gastric cancer, squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck, and lung cancer. Of these, 6 clinical trials have been approved by the Ministry of Health and the National Ethics Committee for research at Nghe An Oncology Hospital.
The recognition of Nghe An Oncology Hospital as a specialized medical facility is a significant milestone in gradually achieving the goals of Resolution 39 of the Politburo on building and developing Nghe An province by 2030, with a vision to 2045, and developing the Vinh City healthcare system into the core of the North Central Region's specialized medical center.
This event not only recognizes the tireless efforts of the entire team of doctors, nurses, and medical staff at the hospital, but also affirms the pioneering position of the largest specialized oncology hospital in Nghe An province in particular and the North Central region in general. In the coming time, the hospital will continue to promote the implementation of the most advanced techniques, improve treatment effectiveness, and provide people with the opportunity to access high-quality medical services.
