Nghe An Oncology Hospital achieves specialized level in technical expertise

On November 21, 2024, Nghe An Department of Health issued Decision No. 1627/QD-SYT officially upgrading the technical expertise of Nghe An Oncology Hospital to specialized level, effective from January 1, 2025.

Technical expertise ranking is a new content included in the Law on Medical Examination and Treatment No. 15/2023/QH15 dated January 9, 2023 and Decree No. 96/2023/ND-CP dated December 30, 2023 of the Government detailing a number of articles of the Law on Medical Examination and Treatment.

Notably, the technical expertise ranking does not depend on the administrative level but is based on 4 groups of capacities of medical examination and treatment facilities, including: capacity to provide medical examination and treatment services and scope of professional activities; capacity to participate in medical practice training; capacity to participate in technical support for other medical examination and treatment facilities; capacity for scientific research in medicine.

Accordingly, Nghe An Oncology Hospital is a specialized hospital at the end of the North Central region, with complete cancer diagnosis and treatment including: Internal medicine oncology, Surgery oncology, radiotherapy, nuclear medicine, palliative care, interventional radiology for cancer diagnosis and treatment, immunohistochemistry testing, cancer gene mutation testing. The hospital applies many advanced scientific and technical advances in the world to clinical practice.

Since its establishment, the hospital has successfully deployed many special techniques and specialized techniques that could previously only be performed at central hospitals such as: Laryngeal cancer surgery, plastic surgery in breast cancer, laparoscopic pancreaticoduodenectomy, lung biopsy under the guidance of Maxio robot, radiofrequency ablation of liver and lung tumors (RFA), immunohistochemical staining, gene sequencing, radiotherapy, SPEC/CT... At the same time, promoting the transfer of specialized techniques to medical examination and treatment units in the region, creating a foundation for the sustainable development of the health system.

The hospital has also transferred many special and type I techniques such as: Radiotherapy with accelerators, radiotherapy with dose-modulated accelerators, radiotherapy combined with chemotherapy, laparoscopic surgery to remove uterine and adnexal tumors; surgery to treat benign breast lesions.

With a complete infrastructure system, full and modern equipment; a team of qualified and experienced staff, the hospital has become a trusted address chosen by medical and pharmaceutical training institutions to send students and trainees to study and practice. The hospital is a practical training facility of the following schools: Hanoi Medical University, Vinh Medical University, Vinh University. Every year, the hospital receives over 1,000 trainees and students for clinical practice.

In addition, Nghe An Oncology Hospital always focuses on developing scientific research activities and international cooperation. With nearly 500 topics, projects, and initiatives at the grassroots level; 32 provincial initiatives; 5 provincial topics; 21 provincial science and technology innovation awards. Of which, 1 topic won the Special Prize and many other prizes at the Nghe An Provincial Science and Technology Innovation Award.

In particular, the hospital has been granted the code for the Ethics Council in Biomedical Research at the grassroots level by the Department of Science, Technology and Training - Ministry of Health; assessed and granted GCP certification (good practice in clinical trials) according to Decision No. 18/QD-K2DT dated February 7, 2024. Deploying survey assessment, receiving research records and conducting assessment of 12 multinational, multi-center clinical trials on breast cancer, gastric cancer, squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck, and lung cancer at the hospital. Of which, 6 clinical trials were approved by the Ministry of Health and the National Ethics Council to conduct research at Nghe An Oncology Hospital.

The recognition of the technical expertise level for Nghe An Oncology Hospital is an important milestone to gradually implement the goals of Resolution 39 of the Politburo on building and developing Nghe An province to 2030, with a vision to 2045, developing the Vinh city health system to become the core of the North Central Region Specialized Medical Center.

This event not only recognizes the continuous efforts of the entire team of doctors, nurses and medical staff at the hospital; but also affirms the pioneering position of the largest oncology hospital in Nghe An in particular and the North Central region in general. In the coming time, the hospital will continue to promote the implementation of the most advanced techniques, improve treatment efficiency and bring people the opportunity to access high-quality medical services.
