Habits like putting your hands on your face, resting your chin, using a straw, breathing through your mouth, chewing on one side… all have long-term negative effects on your face.

Below, Dr. Huynh Tan Vu - University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City, branch 3, points out some bad habits that destroy each of our faces:

- Put your hands on your face

Our hands come into contact with many objects in our daily life and work. Therefore, they are not as clean as we think and contain a lot of bacteria. The habit of touching your face frequently will make your skin unclean, which makes your skin prone to acne and makes existing acne worse.

-Chin up

Prolonged chin rest will affect the chin bone and blood circulation. It can cause the chin to become crooked and the skin around the chin to age faster. Prolonged chin rest on one side will cause the face to become deformed and unbalanced.

-Put the tool in your mouth

We are forced to purse our lips when sipping drinks through a straw, which indirectly creates wrinkles around the mouth. The same goes for smoking.

Improper facial hygiene, using unclean towels, and sharing towels are some of the most common mistakes people make, causing acne, facial infections, skin fungus, and the spread of many skin diseases...

- Sleeping position

The cause of wrinkles on the cheeks and chin is due to your face being pressed against the pillow while sleeping on your side. Sleeping on one side often causes the face to be large and small because the muscle group on the side you sleep on is pressed.

Experts advise that sleeping on your back is the best position for us to maintain a youthful appearance, freshness and a comfortable spirit.

Sleeping on your stomach is also an unscientific way to sleep. Sleeping on your stomach can change the shape of your face, causing the bridge of your nose to become crooked and the corners of your mouth to become asymmetrical, making it easy for wrinkles to form on one side of your face.

- Using phone, computer continuously for many hours

In today's technological age, people tend to use electronic devices for work and entertainment at high frequency. This not only causes damage to the eyes but also leads to unpredictable effects on the skin.

Many studies have shown that when blue light penetrates the skin, reactive oxygen species are formed, leading to DNA damage as well as aggravating skin problems such as melasma and pigmentation.

In addition to increasing skin pigmentation, blue light also disrupts the body's natural circadian rhythm, causing insomnia, fatigue, and stress. This is the main reason why acne scars are more difficult to heal.

In addition, close contact with the phone screen will stimulate the production of free radicals in the skin, break down collagen, cause the skin to lose its natural elasticity, promote the aging process, leading to the formation of wrinkles.

-Mouth breathing

When we exercise quickly and vigorously, we may have to open our mouths to breathe. This is a natural reaction of the body because it releases a lot of CO2, then we will breathe back to normal. However, if breathing through the mouth becomes a habit, it can make your face longer, your jaw sunken, your nose saggy...

-Habit of chewing on one side

Most people have a habit of chewing on one side only, but it is better to practice chewing on both sides. Chewing on one side for a long time will make your face asymmetrical. This is also not good for your jaw health.

-Chatter

Constantly grinding your teeth while sleeping or talking changes the structure of your face. Grinding your teeth frequently makes your jaw muscles bigger, your cheeks wider, and your face becomes more unnatural and disproportionate.

- Improper use of facial muscles

Some people often raise their eyebrows to show surprise on their face. If this action happens too often and is repeated for a long time, it will affect the facial muscles, possibly creating many horizontal wrinkles on the forehead.

Laughing too much and too hard can also cause crow's feet on the temples./.
