Man detained for impersonating a Ministry of Public Security officer to commit fraud.
Ly Quang Thai impersonated an officer from a department under the Ministry of Public Security to defraud a woman. Previously, Thai had also impersonated a Ministry of Public Security officer and was sentenced to 12 months in prison by the court.
On November 29th, the Tien Giang Provincial Police announced that the Criminal Police Department had handed over Ly Quang Thai (45 years old, residing in District 6, Ho Chi Minh City) to the Chau Thanh District Police for investigation into the following offenses: Forging and using fake seals and documents of agencies and organizations; Impersonating positions, ranks, and job titles; and Fraudulent appropriation of property.

According to the initial investigation, Thai was accused of "fraudulent appropriation of property" by a woman in Tan Huong commune (Chau Thanh district).
The Criminal Investigation Department of Tien Giang Provincial Police verified and worked with Thai. During the interview, Thai confessed that he was an employee of a real estate company operating in Tan Huong commune.
During the process of marketing and selling apartments and social housing for his company, Thai met and rented a house from the aforementioned woman to use as a representative office. At the same time, Thai invited this woman to work as a collaborator in marketing social housing for him.
During the exchange, Thai introduced himself as an officer working at a department under the Ministry of Public Security. Thai boasted about knowing many leaders of state agencies at all levels.
To gain the woman's trust, Thai presented numerous fake documents and photos to make the victim believe he was a real police officer.
Thai offered to help the woman with some disputes she was in with others. Trusting him, the woman gave Thai nearly 20 million dong and a phone worth 26 million dong to help resolve her issues.
When things went "silent," suspecting she had been scammed, the woman reported it to the police. The police said Thai had admitted to all his actions.

During a search of Thai's residence, authorities seized numerous counterfeit seals and documents from various departments of the Ministry of Public Security.
Notably, Thai was sentenced to 12 months in prison by the Long Xuyen City People's Court (An Giang province) for the crime of "Impersonating an official position, rank, or job title," and has just completed his sentence.
At that time, Thai, posing as an officer from the Ministry of Public Security, contacted the Traffic Police Department of An Giang province to verify the origin of a car. Using professional investigative techniques, the police determined that Thai's letter of introduction was fake.
