Her husband is in prison, but Loan still follows in his footsteps to transport drugs. This young woman has paid the price for her disregard for the law.

Nghe An Provincial People's Court has just opened the first instance trial of defendant Nguyen Thi Phuong Loan (born 1993), residing in Hung Dung ward, Vinh city, for the crime of "Illegally transporting narcotics".

Loan's husband, Le TL, is currently serving a drug-related prison sentence at a prison in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province. On April 4, 2024, a man named Trung (an acquaintance of Loan's husband) contacted Loan to go to Hanoi to transport drugs to Vinh for a salary of 20 million VND.

Hearing that, Loan agreed and invited her friend to go to Hanoi with her, but did not say the purpose of transporting drugs. At 11pm that same day, Loan took her mother's car and went to Hanoi with her friend.

The next morning, when arriving in Hanoi, Loan contacted Trung alone to receive the drugs. After receiving the “goods”, Loan put them in the car. To avoid detection by the authorities, this young woman deleted all of Trung’s call history, messages and Zalo address from her phone.

That same afternoon, Loan returned to Nghe An with drugs. When she arrived at Bac Vinh Bus Station (Nghi Kim Commune, Vinh City), she was arrested by the police. The evidence of the case was 434 grams of drugs.

At the trial, the defendant admitted to transporting drugs for hire from Hanoi to Nghe An. The defendant justified the crime by saying he committed it to get money to take care of his two children.

The female defendant stated that her husband is currently serving a prison sentence, so she clearly understands the legal provisions if he commits a drug-related crime. However, out of greed, the defendant still committed the crime.

The defendant presented his difficult circumstances and young children to ask the court to consider reducing his sentence.

The defendant’s actions were considered a violation of the law, and drugs are the root cause of all other crimes, so they should be dealt with severely. However, some mitigating circumstances should also be considered, such as the defendant’s honest confession and remorse.

Considering the case as a whole, the court sentenced Nguyen Thi Phuong Loan to 20 years in prison for "Illegally transporting drugs".
