Coffee prices today, December 18, 2024: Increased by 800 VND/kg
Today, December 18th, domestic coffee prices are at 123,200 - 125,000 VND/kg. The price has increased by 800 VND/kg compared to yesterday. Below-average rainfall is raising concerns about the outlook for Brazil's 2025-2026 crop.
Domestic coffee prices today
Specifically, the price of coffee in Dak Lak today increased by 800 VND/kg compared to yesterday, reaching 124,800 VND/kg.
Coffee prices in Lam Dong today also increased by 700 VND/kg compared to yesterday, reaching 123,200 VND/kg.
Similarly, the price of coffee in Gia Lai today increased by 800 VND/kg compared to yesterday, reaching 124,800 VND/kg.
Coffee prices in Dak Nong today remain at their highest level, increasing by 800 VND/kg compared to yesterday, reaching 125,000 VND/kg.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, coffee exports reached a record high of $5.4 billion in 2024. This was the fastest-growing agricultural product, with an impressive increase of 56.9% compared to the previous year.
In the US market, although coffee exports decreased by nearly 30%, their value increased by 11% compared to 2023. This indicates that the price of coffee exported to the US is higher, offsetting the decrease in volume.
Notably, the Chinese market recorded strong growth in both volume and value. Specifically, the volume of coffee exports increased by 34.3% while the value increased by as much as 65% compared to the same period last year. In addition, coffee exports to ASEAN countries also made significant progress with a 41% increase in volume and an 83% increase in value.
World coffee prices today
At the close of the most recent trading session, Robusta coffee prices in London for November 2024 delivery fell by $55/ton compared to yesterday, to $5,175/ton, and for January 2025 delivery fell by $67/ton compared to yesterday, to $5,136/ton.
Arabica coffee prices for December 2024 delivery fell by 6.45 cents/lb compared to yesterday, to 320.35 cents/lb, while March 2025 delivery fell by 6.10 cents/lb compared to yesterday, to 317.08 cents/lb.
Global coffee prices are trending upwards, primarily due to lower-than-average rainfall in Brazil. This has raised concerns about the prospects for the 2025-2026 coffee crop in Brazil – the world's largest coffee producer and exporter.
According to a report from the Somar Meteorologia meteorological agency, Minas Gerais state, Brazil's largest arabica coffee-growing region, recorded only 35.2 mm of rainfall last week. This figure is only 65% of the historical average, further increasing pressure on coffee supply.
According to a monthly survey conducted by Safras & Mercado as of December 11th, Brazilian coffee producers had sold 79% of their 2024-2025 crop. This figure is 9% higher than a month ago, indicating strong sales activity.
Gil Barabach, a consultant at Safras & Mercado, said the recent price surge, coupled with speculation surrounding a potential drop in yields during the next harvest, is causing sellers to be cautious. He stated, “The growing pessimism about the size of the upcoming crop in Brazil is the main factor driving producers to remain cautious.”
