Thanh Son clarifies his relationship with Kha Ngan, choosing to remain silent in the face of rumors.
Thanh Son said he and Kha Ngan are just colleagues. The actor hopes the audience will focus on his art, instead of searching on social media about him and only find rumors about his private life.
Pressure when "going South", hoping to be accepted by cinema
- This is your first time "going South" to act in a movie, what are your feelings?
It's been more than 10 years since I returned to cinema.The smell of burning grass2012. When I received the casting invitation from the film crew, I flew from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City to try out.
In TV dramas, I am mostly chosen by the director for roles, but in movies, I have to take the initiative in everything. I am happy, nervous, and worried about whether I will do well or not. When I look at the crew, which are all reputable and skilled names, I believe I have made the right choice.
Love the wrong best friendis the first film project I have participated in the Southern market. Although it is a supporting role with not much screen time, I have placed my trust and hope in the project. Hopefully this film and role will open up the next opportunity for me in cinema.
- What pressure do you face when the majority is already familiar with Thanh Son, not to mention you are currently a top actor on Northern television?
I didn’t expect to face such pressure. The change of environment, new team, new way of working, everything was strange. Although I was nervous at first, the friendliness and support from everyone helped me feel secure.
On television or stage, Thanh Son may be a familiar face, but in cinema he is a “newbie”. I try to learn, absorb, and put my experience into my character. Even a small role is still the motivation for me to move forward.
- What are your career goals now?
If only counting the stage, I have won enough awards from the national to the capital. In the television field, I also made my mark through a series of VFC films, winning the Golden Kite for both main and supporting roles.
Directors have always invited me to play safe, youthful romantic roles. I always wonder when I will be able to “get out of that role”. But I think the fault may be with me. It’s time for me to take the initiative to find scripts myself, instead of sitting around waiting for opportunities.

- Thanh Son's pairing with beautiful actresses constantly gives rise to love rumors. Do you feel bothered?
I'm used to it! Questions like that are not the first time Thanh Son has been asked. However, rumors are just rumors so I usually choose to stay silent. Similarly, some people still wonder about the relationship between me and Kha Ngan, in fact we are colleagues.
I don't want every time Thanh Son is mentioned, the audience will only search on Google for information about his private life, "fake movies, real love", instead of his artistic or film imprint.
I want to direct people to focus on my acting. Movie audiences have the right to judge whether Thanh Son’s acting is good or bad, whether he is good and improving day by day or not… That is what I hope for when working in this profession.
- Thanh Son may have created a very good “chemical reaction” with his co-stars, which unintentionally led to rumors outside of the film. How do you place your feelings and have you ever wavered in front of your co-stars?
In acting, I try to ensure both reason and emotion. I don't let either side be too different, everything must be balanced. Reason helps me to be creative, bring interesting colors to the role, and also to control reason. On the other hand, emotion is still an important bridge to convey the story to the audience.
As for being warm and gallant, I think this comes from personality. Not only my female co-stars but also my male co-stars. During the working process, I try to create comfort, because that creates good interaction between the parties.

- Thanh Son has a beautiful image and is loved, but his recent posts on social networks have been attacked. How do you choose to react?
This is the first time I have encountered this. I also ask permission not to comment or dig deeper. Because the current response will lead the audience to more rumors. It goes against what I want to focus on work. Both in life and art, I know I need to try harder to improve.
- What is the quiet moment in your life right now?
Leaving the movie industry, I allow myself to be an audience. I believe that before being a good actor, you must be a good audience, judging whether a work is good or bad.
My purpose in going to the South was mainly to make films, but I personally don't think I'm suited to showbiz, especially social networks or image building and PR.
Many friends advised me to move to Ho Chi Minh City to live, which is more convenient for work. However, when filming VFC, I realized that some of my colleagues still flew from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi, and then flew back to Ho Chi Minh City after work. I wanted to do that because I still have family, life and relationships in Hanoi that I have been familiar with for decades.
