Thanh Sơn clarifies his relationship with Khả Ngân, choosing to remain silent amidst rumors.

The pressure of moving south, hoping for acceptance in the film industry.

- What were your feelings about moving south to film a movie for the first time?

It's been over 10 years since I last got back into filmmaking.The smell of burnt grassIn 2012, when I received an invitation to audition for the film crew, I flew from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City to try out.

In television dramas, I'm mostly cast by directors, but in film, I have to be proactive about everything. I'm happy, but also nervous and worried about whether I'll do well. When I see the crew, full of reputable and skilled professionals, I believe I made the right choice.

Although it's a supporting role with limited screen time, I have faith and high expectations for the project. I hope this film and this role will open up further opportunities for me in the film industry.

- What kind of pressure do you face when most people are already so familiar with Thanh Son, not to mention that you are one of the top actors on Northern Vietnamese television today?

I didn't expect to face this much pressure. The change of environment, the new team, the way of working—everything was unfamiliar. Initially, I was nervous, but the friendliness and support from everyone helped me stay calm.

While Thanh Son may be a familiar face on television or stage, he's a "newcomer" in film. I try to learn, absorb, and strive to bring my experience to the character. Even a small role is a motivation for me to move forward.

- What are your career goals right now?

If we only consider the stage, I've already won awards from the national level to the capital city. In the field of television, I've also made my mark through VFC's series, winning the Golden Kite Award for both leading and supporting roles.

Directors have always offered me safe, youthful, romantic roles. I've always wondered when I'll finally be able to "break free" from those roles. But I think the fault might lie with myself. It's time I proactively sought out scripts instead of sitting around waiting for opportunities.

- Thanh Son's frequent pairings with beautiful actresses constantly spark dating rumors; does this bother him?

I'm used to it! Questions like that aren't new to Thanh Son. However, rumors are just rumors, so I usually choose to remain silent. Similarly, some people still wonder about the relationship between me and Kha Ngan; in reality, we are just colleagues.

I don't want Thanh Son's name to be mentioned in a way that only leads audiences to search on Google for information about his personal life or "on-screen romance," instead of his artistic achievements or filmography.

I want people to focus on my acting. Viewers have the right to judge whether Thanh Son's acting is good or bad, whether he is improving and progressing day by day… That's what I hope for in my profession.

- It's possible that Thanh Son creates great "chemistry" with his co-stars, which unintentionally leads to rumors outside of filming. How does he manage his emotions, and has he ever wavered in front of a co-star?

In acting, I try to balance both reason and emotion. I don't let either one be too unbalanced; everything must be in equilibrium. Reason helps me be creative, bringing interesting nuances to the role, while also allowing me to control my emotions. On the other hand, emotion remains a crucial bridge for conveying the story to the audience.

As for being warm and chivalrous, I think that stems from my personality. It's not just with my female co-stars; I'm the same with my male co-stars. During filming, I try to create a comfortable atmosphere because that's what fosters good interaction between everyone involved.

- Thanh Son has a positive image and is well-liked, but his recent posts on social media have been attacked. How will he respond?

This is the first time I've encountered something like this. I also prefer not to comment or delve deeper into it. Because responding now would only lead the audience towards rumors, which goes against my desire to focus on my work. Both in life and in art, I know I need to strive harder to improve.

- What is the quiet period in your life right now?

Leaving the film industry, I allow myself to be an audience member. I believe that before being a good actor, you must be a good audience member, able to judge whether a work is good or bad.

My main purpose in moving to the South was to make films, because I personally felt I wasn't suited for showbiz, especially social media or image building and PR.

Many friends advised me to move permanently to Ho Chi Minh City, as it would be more convenient for my work. However, while filming for VFC, I realized that some of my colleagues still flew from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi and then flew back to Ho Chi Minh City after work. I wanted to do that because I have family, a life, and relationships in Hanoi that I've been familiar with for decades.
