Identify the latest color and license plate numbers issued to individuals and organizations
Previously, license plates were classified according to separate registration series for each type of vehicle such as commercial transport vehicles, trucks, pickup trucks, etc. However, according to Circular 79/2024/TT-BCA regulating the issuance and revocation of vehicle registration certificates, license plates of motor vehicles and specialized motorbikes, effective from January 1, 2025, this regulation has been abolished.
The current arrangement of letters and numbers on car license plates in Vietnam includes three main parts: Local registration code (first two numbers), registration series (one letter) and vehicle registration order (consisting of 05 natural numbers).
According to previous regulations, each vehicle type will have a separate registration series, as follows:
Series A: Issued to cars with 7 to 9 seats.
Series B: Issued to vehicles providing transport services with 9 seats or more.
Series D: For vans.
Series C, H, K: Issued to trucks and pickups.
KT Series: For military vehicles for economic purposes.
LD Series: Issued to joint venture vehicles.
HC Series: For limited range cars, passenger cars and four-wheel motor vehicles.
However, from January 1, 2025, these registration series have been abolished, meaning that license plates can use the same letters A, B, C, D, H, K,... on many types of vehicles such as trucks, pickup trucks, vans and passenger cars from 7 to 9 seats, as well as commercial transport vehicles.
Regarding the color of license plates, Circular 79/2024/TT-BCA also provides specific regulations. Specifically:
Blue license plate(white letters and numbers) for vehicles of domestic agencies, organizations and individuals, including Party agencies, the Office of the President, the National Assembly, Government agencies, Police agencies, Courts, Procuracies, socio-political organizations, and public service units.
White license plate(black letters and numbers) for vehicles of domestic organizations and individuals not included in the above subjects.
Yellow license plate(black letters and numbers) issued to vehicles operating in the transport business.
Auction winning license platehas red and yellow background identification stamp, blue letters.
License plates using clean energy(green energy, environmentally friendly) has a green identification stamp.
These changes are intended to create uniformity in the issuance of license plates and make vehicle identification clearer and easier.
