Identify the latest vehicle colors and license plates issued to individuals and organizations.
Previously, vehicle license plates were classified according to separate registration series for each type of vehicle, such as commercial transport vehicles, trucks, pickup trucks, etc. However, according to Circular 79/2024/TT-BCA regulating the issuance and revocation of vehicle registration certificates and license plates for motor vehicles and specialized motorcycles, effective from January 1, 2025, this regulation has been abolished.
The current arrangement of letters and numbers on car license plates in Vietnam consists of three main parts: the registration locality symbol (the first two numbers), the registration serial number (one letter), and the vehicle registration number (consisting of five natural numbers).
According to previous regulations, each type of vehicle would have a unique registration serial number, as follows:
Series A: Issued to cars with 7 to 9 seats.
Series B: Issued to vehicles used for commercial transportation services with 9 seats or more.
Series D: For van trucks.
Series C, H, K: Issued for trucks and pickup trucks.
KT Series: Designed for military vehicles used for economic purposes.
LD Series: Assigned to vehicles manufactured through joint ventures.
HC Series: For motorized four-wheel-drive vehicles with limited operating range, passenger vehicles, and cargo vehicles.
However, from January 1, 2025, these registration series have been phased out, meaning that license plates can use the same letters A, B, C, D, H, K,... on many types of vehicles such as trucks, pickup trucks, vans, and passenger cars with 7 to 9 seats, as well as commercial transport vehicles.
Regarding the color of license plates, Circular 79/2024/TT-BCA also provides specific regulations. Specifically:
Blue license plate(White letters and numbers) are for vehicles belonging to domestic agencies, organizations, and individuals, including agencies of the Party, the Office of the President, the National Assembly, government agencies, police agencies, courts, procuratorates, political and social organizations, and public service units.
White license plate(Black letters and numbers) are for vehicles owned by domestic organizations or individuals that do not fall under the above categories.
Yellow license plate(Black letters and numbers) are issued to vehicles used for commercial transportation.
License plates won at auction.It has an identification sticker with a red and yellow background and blue lettering.
License plates for vehicles using clean energy.(Green energy, environmentally friendly) has a green identification label.
These changes aim to create uniformity in vehicle license plate issuance and make vehicle identification clearer and easier.
