According to initial information, before the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Snake 2025, Ms. TNM (born in 1990, residing in Dak Ooc village, La Dee commune, Nam Giang district, Quang Nam province; treasurer and secretary of the La Dee commune People's Committee) turned herself in to the La Dee commune police.
Ms. M stated that on November 20, 2024, she was approached by a Facebook account suggesting she participate in a job with prizes through social media and was added to a group on the Telegram application.
Here, Ms. M. was informed by a member of the group that she had won a prize. Subsequently, from November 21, 2024 to November 24, 2024, Ms. M. made multiple deposits into bank accounts provided by the aforementioned individuals to receive the prize, totaling over 1.06 billion VND. Of this amount, Ms. M. personally deposited over 50 million VND, borrowed 100 million VND from relatives, and used the remaining 970 million VND by exploiting her position as treasurer of the La Dêê Commune People's Committee to open the safe and use the money for commune activities.
From December 18, 2024, to January 24, 2025, Ms. M. received a request from a Zalo account to pay a fee to recover the money she had transferred. During this time, Ms. M. repeatedly transferred money to various bank accounts as requested by the perpetrator, totaling approximately 1.5 billion VND. Ms. M. then used her position as treasurer to embezzle all of this money from the La Dêê Commune People's Committee.
It was only after the People's Committee of La Dêê commune repeatedly urged her to pay the outstanding amounts that Ms. M. went to the La Dêê commune police station to confess. The total amount of money that Ms. M. admitted to taking from the People's Committee of La Dêê commune was approximately 2.5 billion VND.
