From February, the North will have more cold spells, so shrimp farmers in Nghe An need to strictly follow the schedule and ensure the breed for the 2025 crop.

Strictly follow the sowing schedule

To prepare for the 2025 shrimp farming season, on December 31, 2024, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Nghe An announced the 2025 aquaculture season schedule, accordingly, shrimp farming households in Nghe An are allowed to release shrimp seeds for the main farming season in 2025. Specifically:

White leg shrimp farming, stocking time starts from April 1 to June 30. Depending on specific production conditions, stocking density should be appropriate. For ponds with tarpaulin lining, stock from 70 - 100 shrimp/m2For earthen ponds, only release 30 - 50 fish/m2Breeding areas with infrastructure and water environment conditions that meet technical requirements, can proactively control temperature and other conditions in winter, can stock from September 1 to October 30, 2025; density is higher, from 80 - 120 fish/m2.

Particularly for high-tech shrimp farming, intensive farming, high density from 200 to 400 shrimp/m2. Shrimp seed size in all farming forms must reach at least P12.

In addition to issuing the 2025 aquaculture season calendar, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has directed specialized units to organize many seminars and conferences to discuss solutions. Recently, at the conference to summarize and replicate the model of organizing linkages and production cooperation in the shrimp industry organized by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Nghe An in coordination with the National Agricultural Extension Center and the Department of Fisheries on November 3 and 4, 2024, in Quynh Luu district, comrade Tran Xuan Hoc - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development presented a number of orientations for sustainable shrimp industry development, adaptation to climate change, efficiency, responsibility, and the need to combine harmoniously with other economic sectors, at the same time, must promote the sense of responsibility in environmental protection, not affecting the interests of other production sectors...

According to the Department of Fisheries and Fisheries Control, in 2025, Nghe An's main farming species will still be white-leg shrimp, intensive farming. In addition, it is necessary to apply scientific advances, advanced farming techniques, continue to encourage farmers to apply scientific advances, VietGAP farming, multi-stage farming, Biofloc. Do not use antibiotics, minimize chemicals in all farming methods and stages in the production chain, circulation of shrimp products...

At the same time, farmers also need to strictly implement regulations and standards to improve productivity and product quality to ensure food safety and environmental protection in farming areas. Currently, the Department's leaders have assigned specific tasks to the following departments: Fisheries - Fisheries Control, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, Agricultural, Forestry and Fishery Quality Management and Agricultural Extension Centers, Aquatic Breeding Centers to do a good job in managing aquatic products...

"Hard" shrimp farming techniques

Learning from the difficulties of 2024 such as EHP, white feces, hepatopancreas... at this time, shrimp farmers are urgently renovating ponds, lagoons, getting water and finding quality shrimp seeds to stock in time for the season. They need to pay attention to solutions to prevent common diseases in shrimp.

Currently, farmers have complied with the regulations and recommendations of the authorities such as the seasonal calendar, dredging the pond, removing the black mud layer from the pond (for old ponds), and carrying out mechanized renovation (applicable to old and new ponds). However, the pond renovation process must ensure the criteria such as appropriate pond area from 0.3 - 0.5 ha, water depth reaching 1.2 - 1.5 m, and applying lime CaO or CaCO3with recommended dosage from 700 - 1,000 kg/ha (soil pH > 6), dry the pond for 7 - 10 days to destroy all pathogens from the previous crop.

In addition, water is collected and treated through a system of storage and settling ponds with a rate of about 70% of the total area to proactively supply water to the pond. Farmers must regularly monitor the results of environmental monitoring whenever water needs to be taken into the pond.

Water supplied to the pond needs to be passed through a filter bag and treated through a settling pond by leaving the water for 3-5 days combined with a water fan so that the crustacean eggs hatch completely. After that, farmers proceed to kill miscellaneous organisms with saponin at a dosage of 15-20 kg/1,000m3or some products permitted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development; kill bacteria and viruses in the pond with Chlorine at a dosage of 25 - 30kg/1,000m3, Formalin with dosage of 20-30 liters/1,000m3; or potassium permanganate (KMnO4), dosage 5 - 8 kg/1,000m3.

Farmers use products containing key ingredients such as beneficial microorganisms (Bacillus subtilis, Lactobacillus groups...), vitamins, essential amino acids according to the manufacturer's instructions. For ponds that are difficult to color, farmers can use biological products combined with urea fertilizer (2 - 3 kg/1,000m3), fish meal (0.5 - 1 kg/1,000m3) continuously for several days until the pond reaches the standards of clarity (30 - 40cm), pH (7.5 - 8.5), alkalinity (80 - 120 ppm), toxic gas (< 0.1 ppm)... to make the pond water color green or yellow, then proceed to release shrimp larvae.

When selecting shrimp seeds, it is necessary to choose seeds that meet Post 12 standards for white-leg shrimp. At the same time, test the quality of shrimp seeds by sensory inspection with criteria such as uniform size, large intestine, intestine/muscle ratio reaching the standard of 1/4, and flexible swimming. Next, shock by suddenly lowering the salinity to only 50% (from 20‰ to 10‰), or shock with Formalin at a dose of 2 liters/10 liters of water for 1 hour. If the survival rate of shrimp is over 90%, it is satisfactory. Quarantine shrimp seeds by PCR method at aquatic quarantine agencies of the provinces to ensure that shrimp seeds are healthy and do not carry pathogens; shrimp seeds in the herd have high uniformity.

Regarding stocking, farmers should ask hatcheries to acclimatize the salinity between the nursery and the ponds and tanks.

Regarding management and care, people need to uphold the spirit of "prevention is better than cure" and "raising shrimp is raising water" to have an orientation for effective shrimp care. Feed shrimp in sufficient quantity, mix some vitamins, minerals and food to increase shrimp resistance, increase inspection of water quality to have timely treatment solutions. During the entire farming process, it is necessary to apply comprehensive disease prevention measures.
