Pepper prices today, March 18, 2025: Mixed increases and decreases.
Today, March 18th, domestic pepper prices are at 158,000 - 160,000 VND/kg. Prices fluctuated by 1000 VND/kg compared to yesterday. Export prices for Indonesian pepper saw a slight increase.
Domestic pepper prices today
The highest pepper purchase price recorded in key pepper-growing regions (Dak Lak, Lam Dong, Gia Lai, Dak Nong, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Binh Phuoc) was 160,000 VND/kg.
Specifically, in Dak Nong province, the price of pepper is 160,000 VND/kg, an increase of 1,000 VND/kg compared to yesterday.
In Gia Lai, the price of pepper is 158,000 VND/kg. This remains unchanged from yesterday.
In Dak Lak, the price of pepper is 160,000 VND/kg, an increase of 1,000 VND/kg compared to yesterday.
In Binh Phuoc and Dong Nai provinces, the price of pepper today is 157,000 VND/kg, a decrease of 1,000 VND/kg compared to yesterday.
In Ba Ria - Vung Tau, the price of pepper today is 158,000 VND/kg. This is unchanged from yesterday.
Thus, the lowest price for pepper in the domestic market today is 157,000 VND/kg.
According to forecasts, Vietnam's pepper production in the 2024-2025 crop year is expected to reach 172,000 tons, a 2% decrease compared to the previous year and a sharp 47% decrease compared to the 2018-2019 crop year. Meanwhile, global market demand remains stable, potentially pushing pepper prices higher in the near future.
The Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA) predicts that this year will continue to be a positive year for the pepper industry. The main reason is the downward trend in global pepper production, while consumption demand remains stable.
VPSA outlines three main reasons why the Vietnamese pepper industry has maintained its position in the international market.
Firstly, domestic pepper processing technology has met global standards, increasing the potential for export to demanding markets.
Secondly, Vietnam's pepper production remains fairly stable, although lower than in previous years, it still meets export demands.
Thirdly, pepper brings high economic value; although the planted area is only 15% of the coffee area and 12% of the rubber area, it contributes 23% of the value of coffee exports (equivalent to 5.6 billion USD) and 38% of the value of rubber exports (3.4 billion USD).
In key pepper-growing regions such as Gia Lai, Binh Phuoc, Dong Nai, and Ba Ria - Vung Tau, the increase in pepper prices since the beginning of the year has encouraged farmers to invest more in caring for and restoring their pepper gardens. This not only helps to increase productivity but also creates momentum for stable income and sustainable economic development.
Today's world pepper prices
On the world market, based on quotations from exporting companies and export prices in various countries, the International Pepper Association (IPC) has updated the prices of various types of pepper traded on the international market on March 18th (local time) as follows:
Indonesian Lampung black pepper prices rose slightly compared to yesterday, reaching US$7,321/ton (up 0.76%). Similarly, Muntok white pepper prices also increased slightly compared to yesterday, reaching US$10,283/ton (up 0.3%).
The price of Brazilian ASTA 570 black pepper remained unchanged from yesterday at $6,900 per ton.
Malaysian ASTA black pepper prices remained unchanged from yesterday at US$9,800/tonne. Additionally, the price of ASTA white pepper from the same country also stayed the same as yesterday at US$12,300/tonne.
Prices for all types of Vietnamese pepper remained stable compared to yesterday. Specifically, the price of Vietnamese black pepper (500 gr/l) reached US$7,000/ton; and the price of black pepper (550 gr/l) reached US$7,200/ton.
Similarly, the price of Vietnamese white pepper remained unchanged compared to yesterday at $10,000 per ton.
In February, Vietnam's pepper exports to major markets fluctuated.
The US, Vietnam's largest pepper import market, recorded a 21.5% decrease in volume but a 40.5% increase in value.
Conversely, exports to Germany increased sharply by 73.6% in volume and 166.6% in value. Several other markets such as South Korea, the UK, Thailand, and the Philippines also recorded significant increases.
Overall, in the first two months of 2025, pepper exports to many major markets such as the US, India, and the Netherlands decreased in volume. Meanwhile, pepper exports to Germany, South Korea, and the UK continued to grow.
Despite fluctuations in export volume, the high price of pepper has resulted in positive growth in total export value, helping the Vietnamese pepper industry maintain its position in the international market.
