According to forecasts, Vietnam's pepper output in the 2024-2025 crop year is expected to reach 172,000 tons, down 2% compared to the previous year and down sharply by 47% compared to the 2018-2019 crop year. Meanwhile, consumption demand in the global market remains stable, creating the possibility of pushing pepper prices higher in the coming time.

The Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA) said that this year continues to be a positive year for the pepper industry. The main reason comes from the fact that global pepper output tends to decrease, while consumption demand remains stable.

VPSA gives three main reasons that help the Vietnamese pepper industry maintain its position in the international market.

Firstly, domestic pepper processing technology has reached global standards, helping to increase export capacity to demanding markets.

Second, Vietnam's pepper output remains quite stable, although it has decreased compared to previous years but still meets export demand.

Third, pepper brings high economic value. Although the planting area is only 15% of the coffee area and 12% of the rubber area, it contributes 23% of the coffee export value (equivalent to 5.6 billion USD) and 38% of the rubber export value (3.4 billion USD).

In key pepper growing areas such as Gia Lai, Binh Phuoc, Dong Nai, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, the increase in pepper prices since the beginning of the year has encouraged farmers to invest more in caring for and restoring pepper gardens. This not only helps increase productivity but also creates a driving force for stable income and sustainable economic development.

Similarly, Vietnam's white pepper price remained unchanged from yesterday at 10,000 USD/ton.

In February, Vietnam's pepper exports to major markets fluctuated.

The US, Vietnam's largest pepper import market, recorded a 21.5% decrease in volume but a 40.5% increase in value.

In contrast, exports to Germany increased sharply by 73.6% in volume and 166.6% in value. Some other markets such as South Korea, the UK, Thailand and the Philippines also recorded significant increases.

In general, in the first two months of 2025, pepper exports to many major markets such as the US, India and the Netherlands all decreased in output. Meanwhile, pepper exports to Germany, South Korea and the UK maintained growth momentum.

Although export output fluctuated, thanks to high pepper prices, total export value still achieved positive growth, helping the Vietnamese pepper industry maintain its position in the international market.
