Pepper prices have been increasing continuously in recent times, currently reaching 160,000 VND/kg. Not only in terms of price, the Vietnamese pepper industry has also reaffirmed its leading position in the world, continuing to be in the group of billion-dollar export items.
Despite the high pepper prices, many farmers are no longer in a rush to sell as before. They choose to harvest slowly, hoarding goods and waiting for a good price instead of selling everything right after harvest. This is a big change in the mindset of pepper growers, helping them optimize profits when prices fluctuate.
Many farmers have applied the model of intercropping jackfruit, coconut, and coffee to limit diseases for pepper plants. Instead of massively expanding the area, they focus on care and improving quality according to VietGAP and organic standards.
In Ba Ria - Vung Tau, pepper growers maintain an area of only about 1 hectare, investing in sustainable farming techniques. This method helps improve pepper productivity and quality, while ensuring long-term growth of the crop.

Vietnam currently has more than 110,000 hectares of pepper, with an average yield of 26 quintals/ha, twice as high as the global average. According to the direction of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, the pepper area will be maintained at 80,000 - 100,000 hectares by 2030, with an output of 200,000 - 300,000 tons.
Global pepper output is forecast to decrease in 2025 due to the shrinking pepper growing area in Vietnam and unfavorable weather in India. In the 2024-2025 crop year, Vietnam's pepper output is expected to reach 172,000 tons, down 2% compared to the previous year and down 47% compared to the 2018-2019 crop year.
Vietnam currently accounts for 40% of total pepper production and 55% of global pepper exports. Although it remains an important player in the international market, the pepper industry is facing increasingly fierce competition from other countries.
For sustainable development, the industry needs to focus on improving product quality, risk management and expanding international cooperation. In the context of low pepper inventories and limited supply, pepper prices are expected to remain high in the coming time.
The Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association said that global consumption demand remains stable, especially in the US and Europe. With low inventories and reduced output, pepper prices are forecast to remain high in the coming time.
