According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), pepper prices are increasing compared to previous years, bringing benefits to growers. The forecast for global pepper consumption remains high, helping pepper prices maintain their upward momentum in the coming time.
In Vietnam, although pepper prices have increased, they are still not attractive enough for farmers to expand their planting areas. The main reason is that other crops such as durian bring higher profits, making people less interested in expanding pepper cultivation.
Vietnam's pepper output is on a downward trend, from 192,000 tons in 2023 to 183,000 tons in 2024 and is expected to continue to decrease to 178,000 tons in 2025. In the context of domestic and global inventories nearing rock bottom, experts predict that pepper prices will continue to remain high. The US and China are still the two main consumption markets that Vietnam is focusing on exploiting.

At the Vietnam Pepper and Spices International Conference 2025, Mr. Jos van Gulick, General Director of Nedspice Vietnam, said that unusual weather conditions are strongly affecting the crop in major pepper growing countries such as Brazil, India and China. It is forecasted that global pepper output in 2025 will continue to decrease sharply, to only about 434,000 tons.
Global inventories are also low, causing pepper prices to rise and may continue to rise in the coming time. Mr. Jos emphasized that although pepper demand remains stable and higher than supply, with the current decline in output, pepper prices are unlikely to fall significantly.
While high pepper prices may help slow down the decline in production, the impact will take time to show. Ensuring a stable supply in the long term requires farmers and businesses to have appropriate strategies to adapt to market fluctuations.
