Giá tiêu hôm nay 19/3/2025: Nội địa tăng mạnh

At this time, Dong Nai farmers, especially in Long Khanh area, are entering the pepper harvest season. Pepper prices this year are higher than in previous years, helping farmers have better income. It is forecasted that the demand for pepper in the world will remain high, which may cause pepper prices to continue to increase in the coming time.

However, despite the good price of pepper, pepper cultivation is still not really stable. Pepper acreage and output have decreased sharply in recent years due to unstable prices, causing farmers to worry.

The 2024 dry season was harsh, with erratic weather causing pepper crop failure. Many pepper growing areas saw yields drop by 20-40% compared to the previous year. In addition, many pepper gardens flowered and bore fruit twice, but the second crop had a high percentage of empty seeds. This forced gardeners to accept only one harvest, significantly affecting output.

Pepper output also decreased due to farmers converting part of their acreage to other crops. However, in the context of low supply, demand in the world market still increased strongly, helping Vietnamese pepper prices remain high.

World pepper price today

In the world market, based on quotes from export enterprises and export prices in various countries, the International Pepper Community (IPC) has updated the prices of all types of pepper traded in the international market on March 19 (local time) as follows:

Indonesia's Lampung black pepper price decreased slightly compared to yesterday at USD 7,298/ton (down 0.32%). Similarly, Muntok white pepper price also decreased slightly compared to yesterday at USD 10,250/ton (down 0.32%).

Brazilian black pepper ASTA 570 price remained unchanged from yesterday at $6,900/mt.

Malaysia’s ASTA black pepper price remained unchanged from yesterday at $9,800/ton. Meanwhile, the country’s ASTA white pepper price also remained unchanged from yesterday at $12,300/ton.

Prices of all types of pepper in Vietnam are stable compared to yesterday. Of which, the price of Vietnamese black pepper 500 gr/l is 7,000 USD/ton; 550 gr/l is 7,200 USD/ton.

Similarly, Vietnam's white pepper price remained unchanged from yesterday at $10,000/ton.

Currently, Vietnam accounts for 40% of total output and nearly 55% of global pepper export turnover. In 2024, pepper export turnover will reach 1.32 billion USD, making an important contribution to the country's agricultural economy.

According to Mr. Nguyen Quy Duong, Deputy Director of the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, Vietnam has great advantages in soil and climate, helping pepper plants achieve an average yield of 26 quintals/ha, twice as high as the global average.

In addition, the Vietnamese pepper industry is focusing on sustainable development, expanding the cultivation area according to international standards such as GAP, VietGAP and GlobalGAP. It is expected that by 2030, 40% of the pepper growing area will meet international standards, improving product quality and export value.

Previously, Vietnam mainly exported pepper in raw form, but now large enterprises have begun to focus on deep processing. This is an important strategy to help increase export value and increase competitiveness in the international market.

Currently, Vietnam's pepper prices are at their highest level in the past 8 years, opening up many opportunities but also posing many challenges. As global supply declines, Vietnam continues to maintain its position as the world's leading pepper exporter.

To take advantage of this opportunity, the pepper industry needs to shift to sustainable production, focus on improving quality, promoting deep processing and expanding international cooperation. With the trend of pepper prices increasing sharply, both Vietnamese farmers and businesses can expect a bumper year for Vietnam's "black gold".
