Nghe An urgently takes measures to control outbreaks of African swine fever.
African swine fever is recurring in several localities in Nghe An province. Local authorities and specialized agencies are promptly controlling the outbreaks.
These days, Dong Van commune (Tan Ky district) and specialized agencies are actively implementing measures to prevent and control African swine fever, after the pig herds of two households in the commune were infected with the disease.

Accordingly, on March 14th, Tan Ky district received the test results from the Regional Veterinary Sub-Department III, detecting the African Swine Fever virus in 4 households in Tan Dong hamlet, affecting 21 pigs with a total weight of 520kg. Specifically: Mr. Tran Van Tam's household had 2 pigs weighing 50kg; Ms. Trinh Thi Thao's household had 11 pigs weighing 270kg; Ms. Ha Thi Bien's household had 3 pigs weighing 75kg; and Ms. Nguyen Thi Luong's household had 5 pigs weighing 125kg.
Immediately afterwards, the Tan Ky District People's Committee directed specialized agencies and Dong Van commune to implement measures to prevent and control African swine fever according to regulations. For communes adjacent to the outbreak: Tan An, Tien Ky, Tan Hop, and Nghia Phuc, immediate disease prevention and control measures were implemented to contain the outbreak within a limited area. To date, after one week, no new outbreaks have occurred in Tan Ky.

Que Phong District is currently experiencing an outbreak of African swine fever. Previously, at the end of February, an outbreak occurred at the household of Mr. Bui Van Phuc in Dan village, Tien Phong commune. Mr. Sam Viet Hung, Chairman of the Tien Phong Commune People's Committee, stated that although the outbreak involved only one pig weighing 40kg, the local authorities implemented disease prevention and control measures according to regulations, thus containing the outbreak.
However, shortly afterwards, African swine fever outbreaks occurred in other communes of Que Phong district. Mr. Pham Hoang Mai, Director of the Agricultural Services Center of Que Phong district, said: After Tien Phong commune controlled the outbreak, African swine fever re-emerged in a livestock farm in the border commune of Nam Giai. Currently, specialized agencies, in coordination with the commune government, are implementing disease prevention and control measures according to regulations.
According to information from the Nghe An Department of Livestock and Veterinary Medicine, African swine fever is currently occurring in four localities: Tan Ky, Con Cuong, Que Phong, and Hoang Mai town. Each locality has 1-2 outbreaks, mostly in small-scale household farms.

Mr. Tran Vo Ba - Deputy Head of the Department of Livestock and Veterinary Medicine, advised: To ensure disease-free livestock farming, farmers need to purchase breeding stock with clear origins and carefully check the health of pigs before buying; during the rearing process, ensure full vaccination against diseases; during the care period, limit the use of pond water and feed of unknown origin; regularly spray disinfectants to treat the environment inside and outside the farm area; restrict outsiders, especially traders buying pigs, from entering the farm area...
In the event of an outbreak, people should immediately report it to the local authorities so that timely preventive measures can be implemented. At the same time, the local authorities should strengthen public awareness campaigns to discourage people from selling pigs indiscriminately or concealing the disease, thereby controlling the outbreak within a limited area.
Nghe An province has a long tradition of pig farming and currently has over 1 million pigs.
