New regulations on driving age for motorbikes and cars from 2025
Is it true that from 2025, the regulations on driving age in the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety 2024 will be different from the old regulations?. The issue of concern of Mr. Nguyen Trong Duy (Tan Ky, Nghe An).
Reply: According to the provisions of Article 59, Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety 2024 (effective from January 1, 2025), the age and health of drivers participating in road traffic are as follows:
1. The age of drivers and specialized motorbike operators is regulated as follows:
- People 16 years of age or older are allowed to drive motorbikes;
- People aged 18 years or older are granted a driving license of class A1, A, B1, B, C1, and are granted a certificate of training in road traffic law to drive specialized motorbikes on the road;
- People 21 years of age or older are granted a class C, BE driver's license;
- People aged 24 and over are granted driving licenses of class D1, D2, C1E, CE;
- People aged 27 and over are granted driving licenses of class D, D1E, D2E, DE;
- The maximum age of drivers of passenger cars (including buses) with more than 29 seats (excluding the driver's seat) and sleeper cars is 57 years old for men and 55 years old for women.
2. Drivers of vehicles participating in road traffic must ensure health conditions appropriate to each type of vehicle they are allowed to drive. The Minister of Health shall prescribe health standards, health examinations for drivers and operators of specialized motorbikes; periodic health examinations for car drivers; and establish a database on the health of drivers and operators of specialized motorbikes.
3. The Minister of National Defense and the Minister of Public Security shall prescribe the age of drivers in the military and police forces performing defense and security duties.
Thus, the 2024 Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety has increased the maximum driving age by 5 years for women and 2 years for men when driving passenger cars with more than 29 seats (excluding the driver's seat) and sleeper passenger cars.
