New regulations on the age for driving motorcycles and cars, effective from 2025.
Will the regulations on driving age under the 2024 Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety differ from the old regulations starting in 2025? This is a question raised by Mr. Nguyen Trong Duy (Tan Ky, Nghe An).
ReplyAccording to Article 59 of the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety 2024 (effective from January 1, 2025), the age and health requirements for drivers participating in road traffic are as follows:
1. The age requirements for drivers and operators of specialized motor vehicles are as follows:
- Individuals aged 16 and above are permitted to operate motorcycles;
- Individuals aged 18 and above who are granted A1, A, B1, B, and C1 driver's licenses, and who have received a certificate of training in traffic law, are eligible to operate specialized motorcycles on public roads.
- Individuals aged 21 and above are eligible to obtain a Class C or BE driver's license;
- Individuals aged 24 and above are eligible to obtain driver's licenses of categories D1, D2, C1E, and CE;
- Individuals aged 27 and above are eligible to obtain driver's licenses of categories D, D1E, D2E, and DE;
- The maximum age for drivers of passenger vehicles (including buses) with more than 29 seats (excluding the driver's seat) and sleeper buses is 57 years old for men and 55 years old for women.
2. Drivers of road vehicles must ensure they meet the health requirements appropriate to the type of vehicle they are permitted to operate. The Minister of Health shall prescribe health standards and medical examinations for drivers of specialized vehicles and motorized vehicles; periodic medical examinations for those working as drivers of automobiles; and the establishment of a database on the health of drivers of specialized vehicles and motorized vehicles.
3. The Minister of National Defence and the Minister of Public Security shall regulate the age of drivers in the armed forces and police forces performing defence and security duties.
Thus, the 2024 Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety has increased the maximum driving age by 5 years for women and 2 years for men when driving passenger vehicles with more than 29 seats (excluding the driver's seat) and sleeper buses.
