Today, April 8th, domestic pepper prices are at 153,000 - 155,000 VND/kg. Both domestic and international pepper prices remain unchanged compared to yesterday. The Vietnamese pepper industry is awaiting detailed information on import tariffs before deciding on a specific course of action.
Today's pepper prices in the domestic market (April 8, 2025)
Today's pepper prices in some key growing regions remained unchanged compared to yesterday. This keeps domestic pepper prices at between 153,000 VND/kg and 155,000 VND/kg.
In the Central Highlands region, today's pepper price in Dak Lak remains unchanged compared to yesterday, currently at 155,000 VND/kg.
Today's pepper price in Gia Lai remains unchanged compared to yesterday, currently at 153,000 VND/kg.
Today's pepper price in Dak Nong remains unchanged compared to yesterday, currently at 155,000 VND/kg.
In the Southeast region, today's pepper price in Ba Ria - Vung Tau is 154,000 VND/kg, unchanged from yesterday. Dong Nai also remains unchanged from yesterday at 154,000 VND/kg.
In addition, the price of pepper in Binh Phuoc today remains unchanged compared to yesterday, currently at 154,000 VND/kg.
The announcement by US President Donald Trump of a minimum 10% tariff on all imported goods and a retaliatory 46% tariff on goods from Vietnam is causing concern among pepper exporters. Pepper is a key agricultural product of Vietnam, currently holding a very large market share in the US.
According to Mr. Le Viet Anh, Chief of the Office of the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), Vietnam is currently the largest supplier of pepper to the United States, accounting for up to 77% of the total amount of pepper imported by the US. Conversely, the US is also the largest export market for Vietnamese pepper.
In 2024, Vietnam exported over 72,300 tons of pepper to the US, a 33.2% increase compared to the previous year. The export value reached $409 million, accounting for 31% of the country's total pepper exports. Given this significant trade relationship, any changes in tax policy have a strong impact on businesses.
Mr. Le Viet Anh stated that what worries businesses is that many pepper export contracts to the US were signed from the beginning of 2025, with delivery times extending to August and September. When signing these orders, businesses did not anticipate the US increasing tariffs, so the selling price did not include the additional 10% import tax.
If the new tariffs are applied to already signed contracts, Vietnamese businesses risk incurring significant losses. In light of this situation, some businesses are considering renegotiating with their US partners to share the costs of the new tariffs, hoping that each side will bear a portion of the burden.
It is currently unclear whether pepper will be included in the list of goods subject to the 46% retaliatory tariff. The Vietnamese pepper industry is awaiting detailed information to determine a specific course of action. Many businesses still hope that during negotiations between the two governments, pepper will only be subject to a 10% import tariff like other goods, and will not have to bear the additional special retaliatory tariff from the US.

On the world market, based on quotations from exporting companies and export prices in various countries, the International Pepper Association (IPC) has updated the prices of various types of pepper traded on the international market on April 6th (local time) as follows:
Indonesian Lampung black pepper prices remained unchanged compared to yesterday at US$7,239/ton. Additionally, Muntok white pepper prices remained stable compared to yesterday at US$10,066/ton.
Brazilian ASTA 570 black pepper prices remained unchanged compared to yesterday at $6,950 per ton.
Malaysian ASTA black pepper prices remained unchanged compared to yesterday, currently at US$9,850/ton. Additionally, the price of ASTA white pepper from the same country also remained unchanged compared to yesterday, at US$12,300/ton.
Prices for all types of Vietnamese pepper remained stable compared to yesterday. Specifically, the price of Vietnamese black pepper (500 gr/l) reached US$7,100/ton; and the price of black pepper (550 gr/l) reached US$7,300/ton.
Similarly, the price of Vietnamese white pepper remained unchanged compared to yesterday, at $10,100 per ton.
