Coach prosecuted for abuse of power and embezzlement of athletes' money.
On April 29th, the Security Investigation Agency of the Nghe An Provincial Police announced that it had issued a decision to initiate a criminal case and prosecute Ton Quy Hoa (born in 1982), residing in Van Trung Hamlet, Hung Dung Ward, Vinh City (head coach of the sepak takraw team), for the crime of abusing his position and authority to appropriate property, as stipulated in Article 355 of the 2015 Penal Code.
Through intelligence gathering, the Internal Political Security Department of the Nghe An Provincial Police discovered that Ton Quy Hoa, a coach at the Nghe An Sports Training and Competition Center, showed suspicious signs related to violations of the law and misappropriation of athletes' allowances over a long period of time.
Given the above situation, in order to avoid affecting the reputation of Nghe An province's sports sector and the morale and performance of athletes in training and competition, after reporting to the provincial police leadership, the Internal Political Security Department, in coordination with the Criminal Investigation Department, established a special case to focus on investigating and clarifying the matter.
Implementing a coordinated approach to gather and consolidate evidence, on April 23, the Special Investigation Team executed an emergency detention order against Ton Quy Hoa (head coach of the sepak takraw team at the Nghe An Sports Training and Competition Center) for the crime of abusing his position and authority to misappropriate property (as stipulated in Article 355 of the 2015 Penal Code). Simultaneously, an emergency search warrant was executed at Ton Quy Hoa's residence and workplace, resulting in the seizure of several documents and related evidence.
Initially, the Security Investigation Agency of the Nghe An Provincial Police investigated and clarified that: From 2021 until the time of his arrest, taking advantage of his position and authority, Ton Quy Hoa embezzled various types of allowances from 3 athletes totaling more than 200 million VND.
Currently, the police have recovered all the money that Ton Quy Hoa embezzled, returning the assets to the victims; at the same time, they are continuing to complete the case file to prosecute the suspect according to the law.
