Authorities have located a suspect wanted on Interpol's red notice.
The Vinh Phuc Provincial Police have just discovered Kim JiWon (32 years old), a South Korean national and a subject of an Interpol red notice, residing in an apartment building in the area.
On May 3rd, the Vinh Phuc Provincial Police announced that during a residency check of foreigners at the Lafortuna apartment complex in Vinh Yen City in April, they discovered a South Korean citizen who had not declared temporary residence, lacked valid work documents, and showed signs of illegal residency.
Immediately afterwards, the Immigration and Border Control Department of the Vinh Phuc Provincial Police implemented professional measures and coordinated with other units to verify the identity through the system.
Upon investigation, authorities discovered that the suspect, Kim JiWon, had previously been sentenced to 10 months of probation by a South Korean court in 2019 for organizing transnational gambling.
This individual is currently wanted internationally by the Interpol General Secretariat for operating an illegal online gambling website.
According to the police, Kim JiWon graduated with a degree in robotics programming from Buchoen University. After graduation, Kim JiWon worked in the technology sector in South Korea, then moved to Cambodia to participate in online gambling advertising.
In February 2024, Kim JiWon was sponsored by Plan In Vietnam Co., Ltd. to enter Vietnam for work.
By September 2024, Kim JiWon had left her job at the company but did not report it to the Immigration Department. She continued to use the issued temporary residence card to reside and operate in Vietnam, secretly moving through many provinces and cities.
At the police station, Kim Jiwon confessed to all violations committed during her entry, residence, and activities in Vietnam.
The Vinh Phuc Provincial Police have issued a decision imposing an administrative fine of 17.5 million VND on Kim JiWon and an additional penalty of deportation.
The suspect Kim JiWon has been handed over by the Vinh Phuc Provincial Police to Detention Facility No. 1 - Ministry of Public Security to complete the necessary paperwork and procedures to proceed with the next steps as prescribed by law.
