Coffee prices today, May 17, 2025: Slightly increasing again.
Today, May 17th, domestic coffee prices are at 125,900 - 126,200 VND/kg. Domestic coffee prices have slightly increased by 200 VND/kg compared to yesterday. Vietnamese farmers are holding onto their stocks because they believe current prices are still low.
Domestic coffee prices today
Domestic coffee prices in the Central Highlands region today, May 17, 2025, have slightly increased again compared to yesterday, fluctuating between 125,900 and 126,200 VND/kg.
Accordingly, traders in Dak Nong province are buying coffee at the highest price of 126,200 VND/kg. This remains unchanged from yesterday.
Similarly, the price of coffee in Dak Lak province is 126,200 VND/kg, an increase of 200 VND/kg compared to yesterday.
Coffee prices in Gia Lai province remained unchanged, trading at 126,000 VND/kg.
In Lam Dong province, the price of coffee increased by 200 VND/kg and reached 125,900 VND/kg.
In the domestic market, the amount of coffee held by farmers is currently very small, only about 15%. Farmers are selling cautiously, not in large quantities, because the price is not yet attractive enough.
Overall, this year's coffee supply is considered insufficient to meet demand, but due to the complex geopolitical situation, importers are no longer stockpiling as before, but are instead buying only what they need to minimize risk.
Vietnamese coffee prices fell slightly compared to last week, while in Indonesia, the discount also narrowed as the new crop began to appear on the market. However, some traders said supply remains quite limited. Vietnamese farmers are holding onto their stock because they believe current prices are still low, while both Brazil and Indonesia do not yet have abundant supplies.
World coffee prices today
Coffee prices on the world market have fallen sharply on both exchanges:
Robusta coffee (London):
July 2025 delivery: Decreased by $157/ton, to $4,821/ton.
September 2025 delivery: Decreased by $148/ton, to $4,812/ton.
Arabica coffee (New York):
July 2025 delivery: Down 10.5 cents/lb, to 364.5 cents/lb.
September 2025 delivery: Down 10.15 cents/lb, to 361.2 cents/lb.
According to experts and businesses, the recent drop in coffee prices on the London exchange is mainly due to Brazil preparing to enter its harvest season and the market awaiting the outcome of negotiations regarding reciprocal tariffs from the US.
During the tax deferral period, businesses took advantage of the opportunity to complete delivery contracts. However, with the regulation only applying to shipments arriving at the port within the effective period, coupled with the fact that transporting coffee from Vietnam to the US takes approximately 45 days (East Coast) and 10-15 days less for the West Coast, the 90-day deadline is now nearing its end.
Conversely, arabica coffee prices have remained stable thanks to the main supply coming from Brazil. Shorter shipping times allow businesses in Brazil and the US to deliver regularly, resulting in less price volatility and maintaining favorable levels for arabica.
