After being released from prison, Trung contacted his former cellmate to buy drugs to sell for profit. In addition, this guy also "mixed up ke" to use drugs with his girlfriend in his house.

Nghe An Provincial People's Court has just opened the first instance trial of defendant Nguyen Duc Trung (born 1990, from Quang Tri), residing in Vinh Tan ward, Vinh city, for the crimes of "Illegal drug trafficking" and "Organizing illegal drug use".

According to the indictment, while serving a prison sentence for fraud and appropriation of property, Nguyen Duc Trung met a man named Lo (identity and background unknown). After being released from prison, the two kept in touch.

On August 18, 2024, through discussion, Trung learned that his former cellmate had drugs, so he asked to buy 3 packages of pink heroin and was quoted 9 million VND.

At the sugarcane juice shop by the roadside, following Lo's instructions, Trung put money in a cigarette pack and left it on the table, then went to receive the "goods".

The next night, Trung took the drugs by bus to Vinh City and hid them in two places with the intention of selling them for profit.

On the morning of August 26, 2024, Trung invited his friend Ngo Thi D. to his house to use drugs. Trung went online to order 4 ecstasy pills and 2 million VND worth of Ketamine for 3.6 million VND.

Trung then poured the drugs onto a ceramic plate, used a plastic card to rub and grind the Ketamine into a fine powder (called stir-frying). After “stirring” the Ketamine, Trung rolled the money into a straw and gave it to D. to use.

While both were using drugs, they were caught red-handed by the Vinh City Police Investigation Agency. Searching Trung's grocery store in an apartment building in Vinh City, the police discovered packages of drugs hidden earlier.

In this case, Nguyen Duc Trung must bear criminal responsibility for buying and selling nearly 54 grams of drugs and organizing 1 person to illegally use drugs.

At the trial, the defendant admitted his crime. The defendant stated that he traded drugs for the purpose of selling for profit, even though he knew that this act was strictly prohibited by law.

The defendant admitted that he had been addicted to drugs for many years and invited others to use drugs.

As for the woman who used drugs with the defendant, because she did not participate in discussing, agreeing, preparing tools and locations to organize drug use, she was not criminally prosecuted, only administratively fined.

After a comprehensive review of the case, the panel sentenced Nguyen Duc Trung to 15 years in prison for illegal drug trafficking and 2 years in prison for organizing illegal drug use for others; the total sentence the defendant must serve is 17 years in prison.
