What does Ukraine lose from the Israel-Iran conflict?

Ukraine is said to have lost the attention of the Western media as it focused its attention on the Israel-Iran conflict.

Responsible Statecraft magazine said that the Kiev government hopes that the NATO summit in The Hague will bring Ukraine back to the center of mainstream media attention, which has been distracted by the Iran-Israel conflict.

“One of the biggest casualties of the conflict between Israel and Iran is the decline of media attention on Ukraine. As a result, the NATO summit in The Hague was supposed to bring Ukraine back to the center of US attention. But that did not happen,” the article stated.

The article also mentions significant problems that have arisen with European financing for Ukraine: of the 60 billion euros pledged to Kiev by 2025, Europe can only provide 22 billion euros.

"What we didn't see in The Hague was any motivation to try to end the Ukraine conflict. Instead, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer continued to emphasize that the allies were determined to put pressure once again to bring Russia to the negotiating table. And Zelensky has not given up on his desire for Ukraine to join NATO, making any peace deal with Russia impossible," the publication commented.

Still, Responsible Statecraft argues that it is impossible to escape the feeling that Ukraine is no longer on President Trump's priority list, and consequently NATO's.

While the Joint Communiqué of the NATO Washington Summit 2024 is more than 5,300 words long and rich in meaning, the Joint Statement of the Hague Summit 2025 is a short 425 words, focusing almost entirely on NATO's defense spending target.

While the Washington Communiqué stated, “we will continue to support Ukraine on its irreversible path toward full integration into the Euro-Atlantic Union, including NATO membership,” the Hague Declaration did not do so, which was seen by some commentators as a retreat in NATO’s position.
