What does Ukraine lose from the Israel-Iran conflict?

Ukraine is believed to have lost the attention of Western media as it shifted its focus to the Israel-Iran conflict.

The magazine Responsible Statecraft suggests that the Kiev government hopes the NATO summit in The Hague will bring Ukraine back into the spotlight of mainstream media, which has been preoccupied with the Iran-Israel conflict.

"One of the biggest losses in the conflict between Israel and Iran is the diminished media attention on Ukraine. Therefore, the NATO summit in The Hague was supposed to bring Ukraine back into the spotlight of American attention. But that didn't happen," the article stated.

The article also addresses significant problems that have arisen with European financing for Ukraine: of the 60 billion euros committed to Kyiv by 2025, Europe is only able to provide 22 billion euros.

"What we don't see in The Hague is any impetus to try to end the Ukraine conflict. Instead, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer continues to emphasize that allies are determined to exert pressure once again to bring Russia to the negotiating table. And Zelensky has not given up his desire for Ukraine to join NATO, making any peace agreement with Russia impossible," the publication commented.

However, Responsible Statecraft argues that it remains impossible to shake the feeling that Ukraine is no longer a priority for President Trump, and consequently for NATO.

While the 2024 NATO Summit Communiqué in Washington was over 5,300 words long and highly significant, the 2025 Hague Summit Declaration is a mere 425 words, focusing almost entirely on NATO's defense spending targets.

While the Washington Communiqué stated, “we will continue to support Ukraine on its irreversible path toward full integration into the Euro-Atlantic Union, including NATO membership,” the Hague Declaration did not do so, which has been seen by some commentators as a step backward in NATO’s position.
