Update on flood damage in Nghe An: 3 dead, 1 missing, thousands of homes submerged.
According to the latest rapid report from the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue and Civil Defense of Nghe An province, as of July 23, the remnants of Typhoon No. 3, along with heavy rain and rising floodwaters in recent days, have caused severe damage.
Human casualtiesThe natural disaster has claimed three lives, including Mrs. LYD (70 years old, residing in Huoi Poc village, Nam Can commune); Mrs. VYX (78 years old, residing in Huoi Co village, Nhon Mai commune); and another victim in Bac Ly commune whose identity is yet to be determined. Additionally, one person is missing in Bac Ly commune. Four people were injured due to collisions while traveling or being affected by the floods.
Damage to housingThroughout the province, 450 houses were damaged or had their roofs blown off in communes such as Bach Ngoc, Vinh Tuong, Quang Dong, Yen Thanh, Que Phong, Chau Binh, Nhon Mai, Yen Hoa, Na Loi, Huu Kiem, Yen Na, Muong Xen...

In addition, 3,786 houses were flooded, with Tuong Duong commune being the most severely affected with 2,210 houses, followed by Muong Xen (264 houses), Tam Quang (177 houses), Con Cuong (300 houses), and many other communes.

Agricultural damageThroughout the province, 1,604.9 hectares of rice, 307.7 hectares of rice seedlings, 1,291.94 hectares of vegetables, 990.9 hectares of annual crops, 57 hectares of perennial crops, and 30.7 hectares of fruit trees were damaged. In addition, 647.2 hectares of forest were felled, and 929 urban trees and shade trees were uprooted or broken.
Livestock lossesThroughout the province, 202 head of livestock and 2,707 head of poultry were killed or swept away. In addition, 5 livestock farms were damaged.
Damage to fisheriesThe damaged aquaculture area includes 156.7 hectares of small ponds and 92 cages that were damaged by rising floodwaters, resulting in their loss or severe damage.

Traffic damageHeavy rains and floods caused inundation at 32 locations on national and provincial roads (23 on national roads and 9 on provincial roads). There were 27 landslides (22 on national roads and 5 on provincial roads). Local traffic was affected with 1,702 meters of road damaged by landslides, involving 22,793.1 cubic meters of soil and rocks. Throughout the province, there were 49 landslides, 69 flooded areas, 19 road closures, 3 damaged culverts, 3 damaged spillways, 1 damaged pedestrian iron bridge, and 2 damaged suspension bridges.
Damage to irrigation systemsThe damaged irrigation system includes 2,015 meters of canals that have collapsed due to landslides. In addition, a 100-meter section of water pipe used for agricultural production in Keng Du commune has been severely damaged, affecting agricultural irrigation.
Industrial damageThroughout the province, 37 power poles were knocked down, including 36 low-voltage poles and 1 medium/high-voltage pole. One transformer station caught fire due to a short circuit, seriously affecting the power supply to residents and production activities.
