Before merging and implementing the resolution for the 2020-2025 term, the Party Committees of the old communes: Cat Van, Phong Thinh, Minh Son had experienced many difficulties due to limited resources, unsynchronized infrastructure, the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and natural disasters. The economic structure has shifted positively, reducing the proportion of Agriculture - Forestry - Fishery, increasing Industry - Construction and Services. Specifically, in agriculture, models of product consumption linkage and crop restructuring have been promoted; many specialties such as Phong Thinh oranges, black canarium, tea, and oranges have been preserved and developed in the direction of commodities.

As for fruit trees, the whole commune has 13 hectares of high technology applied in planting and fertilizing. In the area, 4 products have been built and certified to achieve 3-star OCOP.

Breeding of crossbred cattle, deer, and honey bees is developing strongly; forestry is developing in a sustainable direction with more than 423 hectares of forest achieving FSC certification for sustainable forest management/total 1,825 hectares.

Services - trade, industry - construction continue to grow. There are currently 15 enterprises operating in the construction and trade sectors; 158 individual households operating in various industries. During the past term, 73 essential infrastructure projects have been invested in, completed and put into use, contributing to improving the lives and appearance of the countryside.

New rural construction has been focused on, creating clear changes. Before the merger, all three old communes met new rural standards, of which Phong Thinh commune achieved advanced new rural standards.
