Today, September 4th, pepper prices are at 153,000 - 155,000 VND/kg, continuing to rise compared to yesterday due to increased demand at the end of the year, contrary to the downward trend in the coffee market.
Domestic pepper prices
Today's pepper prices in key growing regions have increased sharply compared to yesterday. As a result, the average domestic pepper price is between 153,000 VND/kg and 155,000 VND/kg.
In the Central Highlands region, today's pepper price in Dak Lak increased sharply by 1000 VND/kg compared to yesterday, currently standing at 155,000 VND/kg.
Today's pepper price in Gia Lai remains unchanged compared to yesterday, currently at 153,000 VND/kg.
Today's pepper price in Lam Dong (formerly Dak Nong) remains unchanged compared to yesterday, currently at 154,000 VND/kg.
In the Southeast region, today's pepper price in Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Ba Ria - Vung Tau) is 154,000 VND/kg, an increase of 1,000 VND/kg compared to yesterday. Dong Nai also saw an increase of 1,000 VND/kg compared to yesterday, reaching 154,000 VND/kg.
Additionally, today's pepper price in Dong Nai (formerly Binh Phuoc) remains unchanged compared to yesterday, currently at 153,000 VND/kg.
According to traders, domestic pepper supply is becoming increasingly scarce towards the end of the harvest season. Most farmers are stockpiling their stock in anticipation of higher prices ahead of the next harvest. As a result, domestic pepper prices have maintained a stable upward trend, despite the lack of significant changes in the export market.
On the world market, pepper prices remain stable, indicating that global trade fluctuations have not significantly impacted this commodity. Supply from major producing countries has not changed abruptly, while import demand remains moderate. This creates favorable conditions for a slight increase in domestic pepper prices without negatively affecting export activities.
Many experts believe that pepper prices may continue to rise due to expectations that the US Federal Reserve (Fed) will cut interest rates at its upcoming meeting. This factor, along with the usual increase in consumption demand at the end of the year, will contribute to the market's upward trend.
Vietnam currently holds a competitive advantage thanks to favorable tax rates and a stable supply of goods, helping it maintain its position as the number one exporter of pepper. For sustainable development, the pepper industry needs to focus more on promoting deep processing, improving product quality, and building strong brands, instead of relying heavily on exporting raw materials as it does now.

On the world market, based on quotations from exporting companies and export prices in various countries, the International Pepper Association (IPC) has updated the prices of various types of pepper traded on the international market on September 3rd (local time) as follows:
Indonesian Lampung black pepper prices fell sharply compared to yesterday, reaching US$7,096/ton (down 1.66%). Meanwhile, Muntok white pepper prices rose slightly compared to yesterday, reaching US$10,054/ton (up 0.26%).
Brazilian ASTA black pepper prices rose sharply compared to yesterday, reaching $6,650 per ton (up 3.9%).
Malaysian ASTA black pepper prices remained unchanged from yesterday at US$9,700/tonne. Similarly, ASTA white pepper prices also remained unchanged from yesterday at US$12,900/tonne.
Prices for all types of Vietnamese pepper remained unchanged compared to yesterday. Specifically, the price of Vietnamese black pepper (500 gr/l) reached US$6,240/ton; and the price of black pepper (550 gr/l) reached US$6,370/ton.
In addition, the price of Vietnamese white pepper remained unchanged from yesterday at $9,150 per ton.
