The Hyundai Concept Three electric vehicle debuted at IAA Mobility, revealing the appearance of the Ioniq 3, a small hatchback that will compete with the VW ID.3 and Kia EV4.

Hyundai electric vehicles and the gap in the segment.

In recent years, Hyundai electric vehicles have gained widespread popularity in Europe. In Germany, 28% of Hyundai's sales in the first half of 2025 were all-electric vehicles, higher than the market average of 18%.

However, the South Korean brand still lacked a compact electric vehicle to compete directly with. The Concept Three is the answer, paving the way for the Ioniq 3, Hyundai's electric car expected to fill this gap.

Concept Three - a stepping stone to Ioniq 3

The Concept Three was introduced at the IAA Mobility Show as a prototype of the Ioniq 3. Instead of opting for an SUV styling like the Kia EV3, Hyundai developed a compact hatchback similar to the Kia EV4.

With a length of 4.29 m, a width of 1.94 m, a height of 1.43 m, and a wheelbase of 2.72 m, this new Hyundai electric vehicle is in the same segment as the Volkswagen ID.3.

The Ioniq 3 is positioned as the "electrified version" of the popular i30 series, helping Hyundai complete its electric vehicle product line across all segments by 2027.

Battery technology and operation

Although not officially announced, many sources suggest that the Hyundai Ioniq 3 electric vehicle will use a 400V platform with two battery options: 60.3 kWh and 81.4 kWh.

The front-wheel-drive version has a maximum power output of 160 kW, and a four-wheel-drive variant may be available, inspired by the Kia EV4.

Its sporty appearance, with an aerodynamic front bumper, large wheels, and a rear spoiler, makes a high-performance Ioniq 3 N version entirely possible.

Characteristic pixel light design

The Hyundai Concept Three electric vehicle embodies the Art of Steel design language with its strong lines. The characteristic pixel lighting system of the Ioniq series has been upgraded to a gradient design, adding depth and rhythm to the overall design.

The iconic character Mr. Pix was also included, enhancing emotional connection with users and creating a distinctive selling point compared to competitors.

Production orientation in Europe

Hyundai has revealed the possibility of producing the Hyundai Ioniq 3 electric vehicle right at its Nosovice plant (Czech Republic), where the i30 and Kona Electric are currently assembled.

In addition, the company is promoting the use of renewable energy in production and increasing the proportion of recycled materials in its new electric vehicle models. This is an important step to make Hyundai electric vehicles sustainable and compliant with the stringent requirements of the European market.

Hyundai's vision

Xavier Martinet, CEO of Hyundai Motor Europe, stated that the Concept Three is a major milestone in the electrification journey.

With its compact size, modern design, and advanced technology, the Hyundai Ioniq 3 electric vehicle promises to become a popular, practical choice that will resonate strongly with European consumers in the coming years.
