This week saw a major turning point when Vietnam’s black pepper export price increased sharply by hundreds of dollars in just one day. The people’s desire to keep the goods, combined with the rapidly increasing purchasing power from abroad, created a new price fever.
Domestic supply is very limited. The main pepper harvest in our country ended in the middle of the year, so there is not much inventory left. Many farmers and traders tend to hoard, not wanting to sell immediately because they expect prices to increase further.
Unusual weather in major growing regions such as the Central Highlands and the Southeast is also a cause for concern. Early rains have negatively affected the flowering and fruiting process for the following crop, causing a shortage of supply and pushing up pepper prices.
Demand from the international market is also returning. China is buying very strongly. Many foreign traders are also stepping up their speculative buying activities, predicting that prices will continue to rise in the coming time.
The consolidation of goods from both domestic and international enterprises creates great pressure, contributing to the sharp increase in export prices. In addition, the high cost of transportation and global logistics is also an indirect factor that pushes up export prices.
